Running across random knife people.

Another reason I open carry a large fixed. It's an invitation to the right people and a "f*** off" to everyone else.

Very much so. Ever since I started openly carrying fixed blades, I've had wayyyy more knife conversations with like-minded people out in the real world. It's like walking around with an invitation for knifeguys to strike up conversation, and we'll see if the novelty of that ever wears off...

My neighbor knows what a knife nutball I am so when he locked himself out of his house and the locksmith arrived, I noticed a pocket clip in his left pocket. Naturally, had mine on. Asked him what he was packing and he started asking Larry questions about the key so..that was that but yeah, walking around in public I'm always looking at pockets but have never really talked knives with anyone.
Maybe my BF T-shirt will get me talking in the future :)

Some interesting encounters. I carry a fixed blade of varying sizes everywhere, but it usually doesn't invite much conversation. A Busse Battle Saw keeps most people away, but there are a few people that wanna touch it.

I run into them occasionally. I work in a hotel, and one day I was carrying my 5.11 CUB Master karambit(I'd just got it, was carrying it to see how it rode in the pocket and such), and one of our guests saw the ring and immediately knew what it was, cause he worked for 5.11 and recognized it. Years ago I used to work at Cracker Barrel, a guy bought something in the gift shop area, and then pulled out a knife to open it. I asked what he carried, and it was a Benchmade(I forget what model), then he told me he also carried a Microtech auto(he was law enforcement, so he was legally able to carry it back then), and also had a Case Peanut on hand as well.

Guy at work this morning was up front when the newspapers were dropped off(they come bundled with a zip tie around them), he asks if he can get one, I saw yeah and before I can hand him the scissors, he whips out a knife and cuts the zip tie. I asked him what it was cause I didn't get a good look, and it was a Kershaw Cryo, he told me he always carries a Kershaw, the Cryo was a new one cause his kid recently bought it for him for his birthday.

Ran in to 3 different people with sebbies! Just kidding. Every single time I've ever inquired about a clip - they pulled out junk.

Occasionally I'll spot pocket clips. Most often if I see a cop walking around; sometimes Spydercos, other times can't tell. I've seen some on construction workers; often they're just the clip-carry, folding utility-type razor knives, and once a Gerber. I've spotted guys with Spyderco clips, usually SS-handled ones. Often the clip is on a no-name carwash special. I've also seen lots of Buck 110s and Leatherman tools on men's belts.

I've never started a conversation with strangers about their knives.

I was working at a baseball tournament Saturday and was using my Spyderco Super Blue Delica and he commented on it and then Pulled out his Strider SMF PD1 and told me he used to work for Strider. He then pulls a tanto PT out of his back pocket and went on to tell me about his time with Strider. He used to be in the military and still trains people. Pretty cool experience.

I noticed a Cryo in someone's pocket while in line for Big Thunder Mountain at Disney World and was about to small talk to pass the time. I thought better of it when I thought of how awkward it would to explain I just happened to notice a small clip on his pocket at his midsection like I was checking the guy out. Perhaps if it had been a women…
