Greetings everyone, my name is Travis, but professionally I go by the name Running Bear Steel. I have been frequenting these forums for almost two years now, and figured it was past time to formally introduce myself and my work.

I have been forging knives for a few years out of my garage/shop in upstate NY. I tend to focus on utility type blades, and I love to add color whenever possible. I like working with simple steels (1084 & 5160), as well as making cable damascus. I also do all my own sheath work, whether leather or Kydex.

Now on to a few of my knives.
Forged from 1084, this knife is 8 1/2" overall with a 3 1/4" cutting edge, and has a hand rubbed scotchbrite finish. The handle is coyote/black G10 with black G10 pins and liners. The knife comes wrapped in a simple leather sheath for right hand carry. I also have a Kydex sheath available. I'm asking $175 shipped is the U.S.

Nice work. I'm interested in blade #3. What's your heat treat process?

I thermal cycle three times post forging, then again just before the quench, just to be sure there is no stress from grinding. After quench I temper for three cycles at 400 for an hour and forty five each.

Thanks for the info brother. I'll take #3.

Sorry bout that, thought it was in the PayPal info. You said upstate New York, where abouts? I'm in the northwest hills of Connecticut and am always looking to connect with other makers.

Sorry, it was. I just missed it. I'm in Endwell N.Y. It's just west of Binghamton, about a stone's throw from the PA border.
