Running knives

I've never been a jogger, but I do walk a couple of miles every morning. I carry a can of pepper spray and a large VG-1 Cold Steel Voyager.

Hours, dollars, words, -spent to settle on these two -for any "lightweight load out" even if just a walk down to the pond in gym shorts.

I ran a mile for gym class in high school. Since then, (ten years) I haven't ran... until two days ago. My wife has been running and got me to sign up for a mudathalon. It is in a month and I figured I better do a little running. My knees kept me from running, so I got some knee braces and I am going for it. I did a 5k and am still sore! Anyway, the knife I chose and will probably carry was my Dragonfly SE H1. Never noticed it was there, and it stayed exactly where I clipped it on my shorts. It will never rust which is nice to know with sweat and all. I may try a Centofante 3 as it is light also, but a bit bigger. I also have no reservations with VG10 in the corrosion department.

When I do carry running it is my Delica 3. Been thinking about getting one of the byrd knives.

Emerson Karambit. Small, light and fast to deploy ;-)
Also attached to my camelback when biking (MTB) or in my jersey when road biking:thumbup:

One of the lightweight knives I own clipped at 3 o-clock in waistband, comes in handy for opening things such as small packets of food when your tired. Or a wenger patriot in my pocket in my so called wallet which is nothing more than the cards with money wrapped around with a rubber band holding it all together, I toss the patriot in the rubber band as well. Thin, lightweight, and stays securely in the pocket thus far with that setup.

If I were into fixed blades and they were more legal in my area I probably be carrying a Buck Hartsook by somehow rigging it to my waistband. I think that be a pretty nice knife to have on long jogs in general as I think a small lightweight fixed blade be very lightweight and versatile, not to mention easy to clean if you decide to use it to cut up some food.

I carry my Ontario Utilitac when jogging. Cheap solid knife I have grown to like quite a bit.

Sounds like a solid consensus here. I too picked a SE Dragonfly 2 in H1 for my workout knife. Coupla months in, with some trips to the beach and paddleboard excursions thrown in, no corrosion whatsoever. Haven't even wiped it down with my t shirt yet. H1 is awesome for it's intended purpose!

Don't jog but I do play a little tennis and do some long boarding, for these activities I usually like to clip a little hk ally or spyderco native in my waistband

How is it possible no one has said Kershaw Skyline yet? Clipped at 5 o' clock on the shorts, no problems.

Great question/topic! I have been giving this some thought myself recently, looking at a more lightweight folder that I can bring along on my runs. Lately its been my daily carry, a CRKT M1. Have been worried about sweat + rust on blade, of course. Some good suggestions here. I will have to look at the Spyderco.

Spyderco Spyderhawk fully serrated in H1 steel. H1 is great for a running knife cause it keeps the sweat from rusting it.

Can't jog any more (new hip), but I used to tuck a CS Voyager into my shorts waistband. Still do if I'm out and about (it just takes me longer to make the same distance these days:D.

I trail run at least four times a week doing six miles in around one hour, and get into some pretty lonely places. While running, I have carried a Cold Steel X2 Voyager for last resort self defence and peace of mind since around 2005. It's big enough to be an intimidating and formidable weapon, and light enough to barely notice I'm carrying it.

Well this happened yesterday i had to use my blade while running

You may ask, What happend? Well let me tell you.

I was jogging were i normally do (a very small unpopulated neiborhood) and as i was jogging this kid on a longboard and he was trying to show off tricks, me and his faimily are good freinds so i would say i know him fairly well. Well he as was trying to do a trick he wasnt paying attention and he landed in a pothole. He broke his leg. And his bone was sticking out! he as well tore open his arm really bad and had to get a lot of stitches:( it was very gross. So i pulled out my trusty pm2 and then cut my shirt and made a turnoquet (im very bad at spelling sorry) and cut down a branch for a splint.

When he was at the hospital just finishing up getting stitches his parents (who are sheeple btw) thanked me and apologized theryre rudeness before on why i carry a knife and how its "useless" now they are firm believers in blades now!:)

So that was an unexpected turn for my day
