Running out of bevel!

If you only have slow cutting ceramics and were tempted to raise the angle because you weren't hitting the edge, you're now paying the price. All the grinding that was put off now has to be done all at once.

That's one of the most useful advice that Murray Carter has given: Don't be tempted to raise the angle (you'll only undo the work you just did). If you decide to reset the bevel yourself, another advice comes to mind: Don't spend too much time on sharpening a knife. Take a break and continue the next day.

But if you're in Denver, send it in or call ahead and drive to Spyderco :)

Bodog, that was the best answer I've seen in these sharpening threads. Wish I had your post 10 years ago haha.

Lol, what is that, a 4 degree inclusive angle on a blade that's .2 behind the edge?

What it is is a way to ruin a nice knife... She's all bubba'd now for xtreme cuttin' performance!

Just got muh edge pro; lookee here what I done! :foot::D

Calc's post is on point.:thumbup::thumbup:

Denver is pretty far away from the golden spyderco factory....about a two hour drive from there anyways, ignore me. :D

Well, there is a Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. As a matter of fact, I think there's a Las Vegas in new mexico, too. And I think two or three different towns named Uncertain in Texas. I can definitely see a Sweden, Colorado, where the women are all hot and blonde and love sex.

Maybe...I was never good with geography :D .... unless there is a Sweden, Colorado?

Haha that's great. I don't think a place like that will ever exist. Any ways, I think we should stay on topic or a moderator will come in and shoot some lasers or something.

Well I'm just waiting to get it back from spyderco. I gave them a rusty old dull serrated gen 1 endura to work on too. haha

Still waiting. They got it on tuesday. I don't know how long the turnaround is. It's just sharpening.

Their turnaround is pretty decent - I sent mine in for something I can't recall and also asked that they reprofile a pretty wonky factory bevel, I think the whole process was a couple weeks. That was a few years ago, though.

Calc,

Very nice presentation

I totally agree!! I just ran across this thread, and I thought calc's post #13 was excellent. I've been teaching college math for 40+ years, but have been interested in knives for only about 10 months, and my sharpening skills are less than ideal. But as a math guy, I found calc's geometric discussion was very helpful for me! Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words! Hopefully it helps.

Been over three weeks and now ups has my knives. I asked Spyderco in a letter with my knives to return via USPS. Now I can't get them and they will be returned to sender. I'm just going to take a loss. I'm finished with this.
