Russian Folder "Milk" by Alex Vorobyov

I have #295, received it a couple weeks ago. It is a real beauty, very well made, efficient, understated Russian design, very "slicey" blade (of hand rubbed M390). Best flipping action I've yet encountered (mine include numerous Brous Blades, ZT's, Hinderer's, Spyderco's, and others I'm surely forgetting). I've never had any blade fall shut so effortlessly, silently and quickly (yes, got cut the second time closing it). It is slender and large, more so in both traits than I expected - both welcome surprises. I also love the dual tone anodizing, which to my eyes looks similar to Shirogov's "jeans" finish, albeit without the "wash aging". I also love the nearly naked blade, with only a small "M390" engraving on the flipper tab, presentation side. In short, I absolutely love mine. Pics:

Here with an XM-24 (not an XM-18)

I'll add, my son, who is a dyed-in-the-wool Axis Lock user, handled mine the day it arrived and ordered one for himself. This will be his first ever non-axis folder.

I have some more questions- How are the ergonomics? And is it possible to two hand open the knife (without using the flipper?)

Ergo's are excellent, and very "neutral". So far everyone that has handled it liked the feel in their hands. Two handed opening is doable, but frankly not easy, as the blade nests deep in the handle (which makes it a joy in the pocket though).

If its okay with you, can you post some pictures of the blade thickness and width of the knife?

Thanks

The Russian knife designers definately know something other knife designers do not. They make great slender knives that aren't pocket bricks from great materials. If you want a comparison look at the ZT 450 series compared to the other ZT knives by other designers. They are slim and sleek with good cutting geometry, long blades, and they don't weigh a ton. They make them great without needing to be OVERBUILT!! Not that I don't like alot of types of knives, the Russian designers just make them long and narrow like a sabre.

And yet despite all that I never feel like they are weaker than their American or European designed counterparts. They are still plenty tough.

I will, but it may be tomorrow before I can upload them.

Lapedog, I agree with the pocketability of many modern Russian designs. This knife carries "smaller" than my Small Sebenza 21.

Awesome, and if it is not too much trouble, can you confirm that they are captive bearings?

Yeah, I think this and the Ti-Lock are going to be my next purchases.

My current collection is

ZT 450CF ZDP
ZT 452CF
Small Sebenza 21 w/ Micarta
Large Sebenza 21 w/ Carbon Fiber inlays
BM 810 Bedlam
BM 482 Megumi

Is the only place to get these right now fromrussiawithknives.com ?

That's where I got mine. Bought it on Tuesday December 27 and the mailman handed it to me on Friday December 30th. I was stunned. Came in a really nice padded zipper case with a "birthday card", polishing cloth and a pivot tool.

Damn, well you convinced me. I ordered one of these last night. I kinda hope it comes in this week. I will post my comments when I get it.

Wow! There were 9 left when I ordered last night... I was very close to waiting in the morning to purchase it... I'm glad I didn't

That would surprise me, although not impossible. When my son ordered his on Dec 31 (right before they shut down for a 10 day Russian holiday) there were only 4 in stock (3 after his). I suppose they could have received more, but I'd be surprised if all of them sold in one night. Then again, literally everyone I've let handle mine said they want one.

Are these Chinese produced or Russian?

Yes. :) They are designed and built in Russia, with some of the components being machined under contract in China. The fit and finish are accomplished in Russia, and he quality is very high, batches quite small in most cases.

This model is my first CKF and I am more than impressed. The hand-rubbed finish on this beautifully ground M390 blade is as nice as anything I've ever had (with the exception of my Rockstead Shin of course). The fit is dead perfect, the dual anodizing is very beautiful, with the underlaying bronze showing thru on the wear points. The edge on mine is perhaps the sharpest I've had out of any box (don't tell my HAP40 Spydies).
