Rust on stainless PM steels vs rust on non-stainless PM steels

If the heat treat was bad on that steel, or the steel was inherently prone to corrosion, it would have shown some corrosion by now. Unless you can make a cogent counterargument?
Perhaps I misread you. What I mean is that steel is steel and while there are other sharper options, those are quite brittle and high maintenance in my eyes.

Again nothing to update:

Yes, I should clean up the top of the freezer and touch it up with some appliance white.

I have nothing to add on your situation.

I just want to appreciate you and other people here trying to figure things out, no finger pointing, and doing nerdy experiment to be sure.

I had a touch of rust near the pivot on the blade of my S45 Sebenza. It is a "rode hard and put away wet" work knife, but on the occasion that I noticed it, two instances stood out to me. First, it was in a leather slip in my checked luggage on a trip from WA to FL, and when I took it out of my luggage at the bag check (as I always do immediately) I noticed that it was covered in condensation. Secondly, on the same trip I was camping during a torrential downpour and our tent failed. I noticed the rust when I returned from the 6 week trip.

It occurred to me that it could possibly have been from the washers or the tanning of the leather, but honestly I didn't give it much thought at the time other than that. It removed fairly easily with some sandpaper, which I was using to also brush the flats of the blade because it had some other mystery staining (like an etch) from an unknown substance it must have come in contact with while I was renovating a house.

Slight delay due to technical difficulty. I couldn't find a functional spray bottle. But now:

Didn't bother looking up sea water mix. Just put enough warm water in bottle to feed it, poured in about a teaspoon to tablespoon amount, shakey-shake, one spritz each. Checking before bed tonight.

Please, knife steel gods, no pitting...

Everything that looked like staining cleaned off with an oily rag. I'm at a loss. At this point I have to figure it's something I cut and didn't clean off enough.

The one irritation remaining is it happened to two completely different knives both of which are S45VN.

Oh well, you can try carrying 2 knives on you and using them for same/similar works. You might realize something. Best of luck.
