Rusty's collection sale on exchange

Off to the Post Office with the days work. Will be back online on Friday. Thanks everyone. You can still send your wishes and I'll take care of them when I get home. :D

It just so happened Gin was in the right place at the right time,( or was that the wrong place?) and took this upon herself because the alternative was not acceptable in her judgement of what she could allow if she could otherwise intercede. Sort of like you don't want to go swimming with an ear infection but when someone's drowning you jump in anyway.( Well, ulp, that's as good as I could do....) Anyway, none of this isn't to say what a tremendous gal she is. She stepped up to the plate and took upon herself all this hassle.

We love Gin for this. ( and for being Gin, of course)

For those of you who haven't met her in person (um...that's almost everyone)...she is even nicer than she is here.

Are you going to keep updating the sold ones Gin?

I was really happy to be able to snag one of the old shop 1's with the scrolled butt cap. I saw one of Big Bob's at the khonvention and it was extremely sweet.

Thanks mamav for your good works! You are a righteous person!

for the ones I wanted.Like the sirupati, bas for a freind etc...Great job Gin.My regards too Mrs. slate. :)

The Hasiya arrived today. I've always been happy when new knives come home, this is the first time I've been both happy and sad.

The knife is beautiful...used and sort of sharpened ;), but beautiful none the less. The happy part is of course that it belonged to a friend, or was he a Brother? I'm not sure...and Rusty himself was asking the same question shortly before he left. The sad part is of course that it was Rusty's and still would be had things gone differently...and that it had to come to me this way.

When I saw that it had been well used, I imagined what it might look like if I took the time to buff it back to it's original glory...like the pictures on the website...unmarred and untouched by any man.

By the time I got home with it, I knew that I would not.

I got out of the truck, and knowing that Rusty had not only owned it, but actually used it, immediately put it to work to clear some stubborn branches and thick Canadian thistle in my yard. It slipped through them as it was made to do...and I added a mark or two to this magical, strange, little knife...

Right alongside marks Rusty had put on it...

Thank you Gin...

Likewise, the 17.5" Siru, the 12" Dhankuta, and the 12" Village Siru arrived today.

I say "the" because I can't think of them as "my."

I'm just their safekeeper of moment, so to speak.

The 17.5" Siru been used a bit and sharpened. I'll probably use it some, too. Great balance, did a knife kata with it tonight. Not sure if I like this one or the Gelbu Special more. They each have their own personalities.

The 12" Dhankuta is a work of art. The German silver / nickle silver bits need a touch up with Flitz or Alumagchrome and that will come in time. This one has the original edge, or perhaps Rusty's edge but no use. It shaved my arm keen. If it were a firearm it would be a "safe queen."

The 12" Villager Siru is a user, and that's what I was looking for. Although the description of this knife made no mention of a serious split in the horn handle, no matter. It could have happened in transit, looks somewhat fresh. I first thought it may have been the 12" Siru by Amtrak with the cracked handle, but it's got Bura's marks. Anyhow, that what black epoxy is for, and she'll be good as new, maybe better by this time next week. It will become my "car khuk" as it fits between seat and console quite unobtrusively.

Quite pleased with the knives, and honored to be the current caretaker.

Thanks very much to Gin and Yangdu for taking on this task!

Picking the seax up today from the post office. I agree that I can't call it mine, it will always be Rusty's seax I think.

Rusty's Sanu made Hanshee arrived yesterday. My first and only Sanu blade! The handle has multiple extra rings around it that are very attractive (see it on panel 5 of Gin's post on the for sale forum.)

Looks as if the handle was refinished at one time, and done very well. I may redo it again as a few spots are missing now, but then again I might just leave it as is. The handle is pretty thin and tapered down and is surprisingly very comfortable to hold and fits my pretty large hand like it was made for it.

Karda, chakma and scabbard are in great condition. I also really like the unique Sanu Kobra that was listed as well, but just can't swing that right now. I'm glad I have a momento and of course also feel good about helping Rusty's family out.

Regards,

Norm

That's a nice one Norm...

I think it's great that so many of us are able to get something and to help out. The whole thing might have gone to a third party just for market value instead.

I have a hammer from my Dad and Grandfather...they are things I would stop for on the way out if the house were burning. Rusty's Hasiya, Yvsa's Rose, a couple others are in the same category.

Rusty's 30" Sirupati arrived today. I'll post a detailed review of it tonight after work, but for now let's just say it was definitely an "old school" HI khuk.

I saw that one Bob, and actually got my 30" siru out to take a look at it and compare it to Rusty's. His seemed much more massive and really looked like it was solidly built. Impressive blade.

It looks stout for hell...

Tear it up Bob...do Rusty proud!

I might suggest that you allow the dust to settle briefly, (and take a bit of a rest), before chumming the shark infested waters again. :D There are still many exceptional HI products to be had for fair prices, and some of the European and American style swords will find other shark species waiting for the feed. Thanks for all the hard work thus far... :)

Rustys’ small bayonet arrived to day. I normally don’t collect these but wanted to help out. But this knife turned out to be pretty good. The 9” dagger blade is sharp well cared for, the metal scabbard has no dents or scratches and the handle is great condition. This is a very rugged piece so I will polish it up.

Mamav,
I received the sweet little brass and antler Bilton. Send me the info on how to proceed with payment, please :D so I can send $$.
It has a special place in my collection, and it *will* always be Rusty's knife. I'll just take care of it for him.
