Rusty's collection sale on exchange

I guess I never thought of it that way. But JM got a kick from the fact that the KK, which is very leuku-like, was made in Nepal to be sold by him here in the US.

Nasty, I've sorta forgotten what thread I'm on, but I think Rusty would approve of you sharpening the little 'women's blade'. I don't think Rusty knew how to get his blades all that sharp, and didn't.

Got the seax friday. I like it but I need to reprofile the edge. Rusty had put a fairly thick convex edge on it. I might put a low angle bevel on it so it will be a giant exacto knife like Bruiseleee is always talking about. Not going to be a chopper but a cutter. Can't help but think that this thing will do some kitchen duty.

:D Hi Guys
getting two for the South Pacific, a short sword and the Blackjack fighter. Working out the details now. :D
Regards Phil

The "Oregon 1416" still seemingly available was posted on by Rusty. He bought two and wished he'd tagged three. I got one from Gin today.

Turns out it's a Kershaw "Talon" (Mod. 1416): 1/8" thick x 4" x 9/8" ATS 34 blade; saber/hollow ground; liner lock w/ full-length liners' G-10 handle slabs and spacer; 9 1/4" OA open; reversable stud; clip for tip-up carry. A pretty serious knife, and I can see why Rusty favored it.

Still have one of those left. Thanks for the ID Tom. I'll post that with the next set if someone doesn't grab it first. :D

The 12" AK came in today(after the post office decided to have me wait a few days by misplacing it  ).

I was reading some of Rusty's old posts on the other forum about his "Pocket Battleship" wanting to know if this is it. Sure enough it is, shallow fullers on one side and just about 1/2" thick. Just has the HI sign and 184 on it, no Kami mark. While holding it, I see how he came up with the name. It is stout and heavy, feels like it will chop great for a 12" AK.

You have been doing a great thing Gin, Thank You.

Phil, glad to see someone finally snagged that Blackjack! I wrote to Gin about it with a bit more info, in case you're interested. It's a Blackjack Model 1-5. I suppose you could call it a fighter, but that was not its primary purpose IMO. It's a copy of the classic Randall design, and that one has a stacked leather grip. The knife was offered in stacked leather, black micarta and stag. It was probably made in 1992 or 1993, and wasn't made after 1994 when Blackjack closed down in Effingham, Ill. Mike Stewart built the knife, and now makes similar knives for Bark River (BRKT).

Rusty said that he got it as a "second" from the factory, so there should be some small blem somewhere on it. Having owned several Blackjacks, but not this particular model, I would guess the handle, but you'll have to see.

It is a great design and knife. I have an original Blackjack 1-7 in stag, a new BRKT 1-7 in leather, and a Randall 1-8 in white micarta. I kicked myself for not getting an original 1-5 12 years ago, and would have tried for this one if I wasn't so broke!

Regards,

Norm

Hi Norm
Yea I realise the fighter name was a misnomer. Always wanted a Blackjack for my collection, never seen one in New Zealand. If there is a flaw i will live with it, the price was right. Thanks for the info, may have other questions when it arrives.

Doubled these together because of an issue this knife has most folks won't know about today.:grumpy:
I have one of them too that I bought on a closeout years ago.
If you get one and want to carry it remove the damned clip. Seems that it was a bad design or something and folks were losing these right and left.:(
The first thing I did with mine was remove the clip, still have it. Helluva Good Knife!!!! :D  :D

Thanks for that advice, Yvsa. I bought the 2nd one. Should be here today or Monday.

Congrats and you're welcome.:D This is an excellent knife for a soft nylon belt sheath carry, sure wish I had one or knew where I could get one to fit.;)
Even velcro would be fine for a closure on it.

Hi There Norm
the Blackjack arrived this morning, hard to see anything wrong with it, do you know what the blade steel is??
