I regret to post this, but I feel no other action than to do this.

I posted here on Bladeforums under the Wanted: Knifemaker / Craftsman / Related Services for someone to do a pimp job on an Emerson Super Commander. I wanted the knife to have Micarta scales, titanium bolsters (basically to be like a custom).

I get an email from "Ryanv403" offering to do the job on my knife. I ask him for a quote from him for 165.00. Fair deal I think. After looking at this site of his work and another knife site and also his YouTube page, as well as his Facebook page. I decide he is legit and send him my knife after paying him first.

A little note, I asked him what his turnaround time was (as this was to be a present to a close friend). He quotes me 2 months but assures me the knife will be done and mailed, he then says I should be done sooner).

This was June 11, 2013.

At this time He has not produced my knife either in pimped form or original form with a refund on my money.

All i get are excuses. I've asked for pictures just to verify the knife and all I get is. Sorry it's taking so long, I will give you a free pimp job, and then it's i will give you 2 free pimp jobs, or a friction folder. I DON'T WANT ANY OF THESE. I just want what I paid for. Or Send me my knife and money I paid you.

I have every email that we have exchanged. Where he tells me work has been done on this and he's just busy or he's found a mistake on it right before he mails it.

At the same time, I see on his YouTube page that he has time to post videos and invite people to play Xbox Live.

I feel like I’ve lost out not only on a 250.00 (Emerson Super Commander knife), but also the 165.00 cash for a total of 415.00 excluding shipping/insurance.

I am tired of the excuses and frankly the lies. He tells me he's done this and that to it and never ships it. He then tells me at the 11th hour, oh i found an issue with the scale so I need to fix it. Another email he tells me he's worked on it for over 10 hours. It's excuse after excuse.

So therefore I'm asking this forum for assistance. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

I feel like I’m begging for a knife that I will never see again. I shouldn't have to beg when I paid good money for a job only to be taken and lied to.

Please Bladeforum any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Again, I have ever email to back my claims up.

I know from personally dealing with Ryan fairly early on in his "pimping" career that he does take a bit longer then he quotes, but i always assumed this was just because hes a perfectionist, such as myself and wouldnt want any of his work getting out in a lesser condition. It seems as though he's made an attempt to make things right.

He did come through on both scales i had him do for me and aside from a few minor flaws i was overall impressed by him. He seemed like a down to earth, honest guy and i hope everything works out for the best.

If i were you i would take the free work hes offering, and count it as an honest mistake, given he follows through on it.

I sent a PM notifying him of this thread. Hopefully he'll respond and clear this up one way or the other.

Thank you to all 3 of you for your comments. I honestly really didn't want to post this. I just want resolution and have became so frustrated with his lack of response and constant pronmises yet not delivering.

I truly just want this resolved and move on is all.

It has left a very bad taste in my mouth because this was going the constant lack of communication and excuses.

Again thank you all

I had experienced with Ryan...I send him my superleaf & cash, expecting 1 month turnaround time...but nothing for 2 months. Then finally when I get my knife back....I wasn't happy. Had to resend back to him, waited for another month, then a lot of excuses...and when I ask for my knife back and refund, he just did whatever then send it back to me. I know he tries though...

Totally a bad experience, but I was kind enough to forget about it. Until I see this thread today which bring back my memory.

We've had plenty of people here that are/were quite talented at making knives or knife related stuff that got in over their heads or just plain suck when it comes to the business side. Most are no longer welcome here. :)

This is certainly discomforting to hear as I currently have two knives with him, one that I traded for scales for the other. I was quoted at "a few weeks" when he received my knives. I hope this isn't a pattern for him.

Here is the latest email that I just received. I received this a lil over an hour ago.

"I have seriously been working like crazy on it, trying to make everything work right and it just isnt. So what i can do is either refund your money and send it back, or another option would be for me to give a partial refund and do a different pimp job on it, maybe carbon fiber scales or something like that, your choice. "

So he finally says he can't do the job after all this time. He's told me like it's almost finished and crap..And let's me know he can do a partial refund and apply to another different type of job or send me my knife with my original money

I choice I want my original knife back and a refund... I just lost my knife for over 3 months while this guy has it just sitting there with my money ..

Let's see if he actually refunds the money and sends me my knife.

I will never do business with this character Ever again...

I will keep you all posted...If I ever get my knife and refund back...

Again I apperciate everyone comments and I'm sorry if I appear angry, this has been a super bad experience...hopefully it will go away

Im in the same boat at the moment I sent my knife to him back in June as well and still waiting. I did the same as you asking for pictures and got an email back saying he should be finishing up this week but over a month ago said he was working on it. I really hope it all works out cuz its a bit more of a pain since Im not in the US. Having one of my favorite knives out for so long has bugged me, I don't want to lose my cash or my knife.

Just an update. I just received a refund for the work that was supposed to be done on my knife. I am awaiting a tracking number on my knife now and will update when this happens.

I am thankful this post seems to be working

Sorry to hear about that. I know that I can get behind quiet easily. Especially after classes starting again. But I try to always make sure to be up front and provide the best. I also decline work until I get caught up to stay on top of things. I'd rather lose one or two people rather than piss off 10-20 people.

Received an email with tracking number for delivery date of Monday. Will inspect the knife and report back after it arrives. Again thanks for the comments

Received my knife back today. It seems that Ryan started the knife and couldn't get the scales right. So my knife went as new and here was my requests.

Bead blast the blade, titanium bolsters and back spacer, and micarta canvas scales. Knife was only half done. Titanium backspacer, and bead blasted blade.

This would of been awesome if it would of been done, I just look at it as the unfinished knife now...

Please close this thread if you want. I got the knife back half way, but I got it back neither the less.
Will I use Ryan again, no, will I recommend him no.

Am I done with this half way knife. Guess I have to be.
