Ryuichi Kawamura: "Premium Trapper"

Elliott, Your recounting of how you came to own this fine knife is a pleasure to read for it accurately portrays "The Knife Collector". It's the experience we can all relate to.
The Knife Collector:
"There's no way i need another knife. I've spent way too much money on knives already. I must 'take a break'. I told myself this 10 knives ago, 50 knives ago, a hundred knives ago. I must be responsible.
I'll just 'have a look'.
Oh my ! Oh Wow ! Oh no ! this knife is talking to me. I must resist."
But the knife wins every time.
Congrats. extremely nice knife !
roland

Too true, Roland, too true. ;):p

Roland: I might add, "And I can always return it...."

Blues: a real beauty and interesting pattern. I've owned two of Ryu's blades, (still have one) and they are really great value (like Ohta's stuff). Maybe we should start a thread for Asia knifemakers.

I don't know what more to tell you at this juncture other than that this knife is an absolute gem ...

Just exquisite Elliott. As close to a grail knife as it gets for me.

Elliott always goes on a six or seven month knife buying bender after Blade. :p

Katy bar the door!! Lock up the ones you want to keep! ;) :D

Elliott, you know when you aren't especially looking for a new addition to the collection so soon after a show, and a premium folder like this hops into your mail box, that it was destine to belong to you. I am a big fan of Ryu's work, and this trapper is a favorite. Really a stellar peice!

Congrats.

Thanks, guys. I'm truly pleased to read all the nice comments.

I sent an email off to Ryu last night with a link to the thread but I don't know if he'll be able to access it, let alone follow it (without some assistance). I hope he finds a way so that he can enjoy the commentary.

I'll admit I'm a bit daunted (at the moment).

(Though I've taken some other fine, high end customs to my bench stones in the past.)

I appreciate all the good words.:cool:

If you do carry it Elliott, will you carry it bare-back in your pocket or will you carry it in a pocket pouch?

Elliott - that one is amazing!

Quite a unique combination. The stag is beautiful (as is all the stag Ryu uses) and I really like that shield.

Congrats!

I'm very pleased to report that I got a reply from Ryu just a few minutes ago. He has read the thread and here is his message to the forum members:

Hi Elliott,
It was nice to see you at the Blade Show.
I had a good show in this time too.

Thank you for buying the Premium Trapper from Dan, Plaza Cutlery.
I did read your thread on blade forum, thanks again.
Please tell guys on the thread,
"Thank you for writing nice comments, I will continue making fine folders
for you guys, and VIVA America!"

All the best,
Ryuichi Kawamura

WOW!!

Congrats to you Elliott, that is an absolutely beautiful knife.

Well i'm a 'convert' now. will always look for Mr. Kawamura's knives when looking at dealer sites and maybe one day i'll see 'mine'.

Whoa.

Just... Whoa!

Always did like that concept, lock and slip in one. I've watched Mr. Kawamuras' work fora couple years and dream of one day having one... And now I hope it'll be one of these! Great shape, handle blades and all, it looks so smooth and comfortable... I even like the stag! Your lucky its a wharnie secondary, or I'd be on my way down there to mug you for it. ;)

Roland: I might add, "And I can always return it...."

Lol.. Don't forget "I can always sell it...." And, "I can always trade it away at the traditional forum...."

It's all been said! But I'll say it again! That's a truly remarkable trapper! That is some of the nicest stag I've laid eyes on and it just makes that beautiful knife even more spectacular.

Congratulations Elliott. That knife just has to make you smile.

Really nice. His work is the nicest I've seen. Right at the top of the slipjoint makers.

*gasp* That's nothing short of magnificent, Elliott. You really know how to pick 'em. From what I've seen of his work, Ryu is a serious threat. He always seems to a have a unique, and very exciting, perspective on traditional patterns, and his workmanship and material selection are beyond reproach.

Congratulations!

Thank you all for the good words. I'm sure Ryu is smiling big time!:thumbup:
