S30V PM2, edge dulling quickly

I still have the box, I'll look when I get home and get back to you

Thanks for the info, and I will look into the dimples.

I plan on it! Life is super busy right now for us. Changing jobs, moving

Hey man,

It's not blunted, it chipped. My phone doesn't take great pictures, haha.

I haven't really sharpened it yet. Only stropping and ceramic touch ups. Going to take it to the stone tonight, if the kiddo goes to bed early enough.

Thanks everyone
Send me the knife and I'll set the edge for you.

Hey guys.

I'm freaking sick to my stomach, I'm so upset. I wrecked my edge sharpening it tonight. Been sharpening knives for 15 years, never sharpened anything this hard before. I butchered it.

I'll take a picture, and you guys please tell me how I can fix this, or if Spyderco will fix it for me. Obviously I know I'd have to pay.

Pictures make it look better than it is. The actual edge is out of shape. I didn't notice it until it was too late. I'm embarrassed, and upset.

The bottom bortion of the edge, about 5/8 of it, isn't sharpened. I was making sure to get it, but obviously ny technique is lacking. And I was using a marker to make sure I was hitting the correct angle.

What are you using to sharpen it and how?

Hi Billy,

I'm sorry for your disappointment and frustration. I believe that we (the forum & Spyderco) can sort out your issues one way or another. Shawn is an expert as are many others that hang here. Situations such as stripped screws are a red flag as it is very unlikely that the factory would strip screws as all of our screwdrivers are calibrated and clutched. You can take advice from others here, you can send it to Shawn or you can send it to the factory. Not to worry or beat yourself up.

Cant get any better response than that

Right on, offer still stands.

Thank you sir! Do you have a website or number I can reach you? I am going to send the knife into Spyderco, but in the future I may just have someone sharpen it professionally. I am great at free hand sharpening aofter steels, but I butchered this one.

Mr. Sal,

Thank you very much sir. I am relieved. This knife, while a light duty user, was a gift from my wife so it's even more important to me to get the blade corrected. I'm going to call today and see what I need to do to ship the knife in.

I would definitely send it in. I’ve had quite a few PM2’s over the years and they have all been perfect. I have heard of s30v chipping, but I have never had that happen to me. And I’m not easy on my knives. Sal is a great guy and runs a superb business. They will take care of you.

Looks like you'll be well looked after. The replies from Sal and Shawn really highlight the great side to a community like this. :)

The fact that it seemed like a hard steel when you sharpened it would give me some optimism. Hopefully once some material is removed from the edge, you will be left with some great S30V that will serve you for many years to come without being too chippy in the future.

Thanks for the replies guys! I was so upset about my knife, I woke up at midnight last night and took another crack at it. It doesn't look great, I'm still going to send it in, but I cleaned it up some and it will shave hair again.

S30V is no joke!

If you are not sure about the steel, it's a good idea to ship the PM2 to Spyderco for examination. Your sharpening looks good to me; I wouldn't bother to send it to anyone just for the sake of sharpening.
