S35VN, do we still like it?

For me I find the opposite to be true. S35VN has a long lasting working edge but very short fine edge. I found that only using medium/brown rods on the sharpmaker leaves a more aggressive edge for my sebenza.
Do you find that you need to strop after the brown rods?

I’m interested in sharpening experiences of S35VN vs MagnaCut. I see a few comments that it’s a little tougher to sharpen. Would like to hear more comparisons on ease of sharpening

I like S35VN.

I have had Magnacut and it was easier to sharpen than S45VN, but S35VN was still easier to sharpen. None of the 3 are particularly hard to sharpen, although I seemed to have bad luck trying to sharpen S45VN, it just seemed to fight me more.

My only experience with S45VN is with the Spartan Harsey which is published to be at a HRC of 59-61, CRK is 60-62; the SHF is easy to get a good edge on with diamonds. I personally didn't notice much a of difference between sharpening my CRK's vs the Spartan, in fact both are easily honed/stropped in between a full sharpening.

I do plan on getting something CRK in Magnacut; I am just waiting for the "right one."

I put pretty thin edges on my knives, and I think that S45VN does noticeably better with that, probably mostly due to the increased hardness. S35VN tends to have rolled edges more for me. At more "normal people" edge angles, not as much of a difference.

MagnaCut is cool stuff. Looking forward to getting a CRK with it someday.

Absolutely I love it. I'll try a Magnacut eventually, but have no particular interest in 45 over 35.

SV 45 is the new Pink! Rarest of all CRK steels! Price will skyrocket soooooon........
You're honestly right as long as the knife world continues as it has in the past. S45 might end up being one of the shortest run of the steels CRK has done. Only time will tell perhaps, but I would assume 20 years down the line they will be sought after for collectors.

I love this comment. So true for almost all of us.
It's true for me. I have everything from 440C to S110V and Maxamet, and although there are differences my knives live a fairly mundane life and I tend to sharpen sooner rather than later, so they all work for me.

I have always liked S35VN in any case.
