YES! I did it!
It came out absolutely perfect. A couple swipes and it was burr free and shaving like it took me 10 minutes on a stone.
THIS IS AWFUL!

It isn't supposed to be EASY!

Mini Ritter RSK

I'm stunned!

Wow I would have never guessed. I would be curious to see if that was the rule or the exception on your sharpener. Also curious if you think it took off a lot of steel.

I didn't notice any shavings like a cheap Chinese knife would make.
It flummoxed me completely.
If I sharpen on a stone like usual and finish up with this gizmo (by Smith's) it could possibly be a better finishing edge than my 2 stage from the Sharpmaker.
This knife HOLDS a shaving edge for a VERY short time. It stops shaving but stays utilitarian sharp a LONG time.

I dunno.

I did a thread with pictures on that sharpener, you should read it. From your description you have low expectations of what sharp is.

Your sharpmaker will easily blow away whatever edge your draw through could ever produce, keep practicing.

It's loosing a shaving edge quickly because its about 25 degrees per side or 50 degrees inclusive. At that angle your getting the same edge retention as 420 hc and its all because the angle it too obtuse.

I have knives that are phenomenally sharp from my efforts on various stones and strops.
This one has just blown me away with the speed.

And it has only been once. Could be a fluke.

And I never scoff at edges that are proper for lesser steels. It's hard to find a better edge holder than a SAK.

In my experience.

I also don't think my ..usual... edges are too obtuse. If anything just the opposite.
Some of my Spydies work best using only the back finisher which leaves a 30 degree.

With light pressure, you can produce a decent edge with a carbide sharpener. Not a regularly advised thing, but it works in a pinch. I think cliff stamp (hiss) did a video on it.

Ah, I see the problem:

Not enough knives.

Want some? I have BMs, Spydies, Bucks, A fallkniven, Opinels, and wish I had only ONE knife.

I've modded, traded, sharpened, busted, and messed with SO many.

Happiness is ONE knife.

I predict very little follow up occurs on this day old thread. Once all of the little razor sharp shards of steel hanging off of what's left of that edge fall off or imbed themselves in whatever you're cutting, the thing won't be sharp any more.

Gink!

There are no shards.
This forum is brainwashed.

I've sharpened at least a dozen knives that other people gave me to sharpen with edges beat to hell by a carbide V sharpener. In light of your post, I wish I had taken macro pictures of those edges. You would have seen lots of pretty shards.
