SACRILEGE!!! S30V on a carbide kitchen sharpener???

Lavan, take it easy. I don't think anybody is on the attack here, nor are they brainwashed. I just think that tools are only as good as what care they recieve in the long run. If it works for you, great! Use whatever you wish, it harms me none at all. As for me? I would rather not, just my opinion. I have in fact seen what long term use of one does. It wears a knife out pretty prematurely.

Gink!

There are no shards.
This forum is brainwashed.
It's your knife, not mine.

I prefer to give my knives the tender loving care of mashing it against a belt sander at high speeds, but that's just me:D.

But as the saying goes, "pics, or it didn't happen.";)

The only knife I'll run through a carbide "sharpener" is a plastic one I get with take-out.

I have tossed the carbide sharpener and am now sharpening my William Henrys on the sidewalk.

:p

FINALLY!

I figgered out how to "Go Advanced" and get smileys that can give a better nuance to the post.

:confused::rolleyes::eek::grumpy:;):(

As thin & delicate as the Wiliam Henry blades are at the edge (I have a couple), I'd view that as a progressive step in the right direction. Obviously not ideal, but given a choice between only those two, that's the choice I'd make. I say this in complete seriousness, BTW. A skilled & light touch can actually work on concrete, and won't pinch & rip the edge in the process. Carbide 'ripper' sharpeners will shred a thin edge in no time.

you should sell this to a knifemaker, sure you could make some crazy scrap damascus with this:D

Want some? I have BMs, Spydies, Bucks, A fallkniven, Opinels, and wish I had only ONE knife.

I've modded, traded, sharpened, busted, and messed with SO many.

Happiness is ONE knife.

Heh, are you serious? I'd take an Opinel :P

Anywho, if you like the edge they produce by all means keep using them. But I wouldn't be too surprised when it stops working so well for you... It's pretty well established that they tear steel off at a really obtuse angle, so pretty soon you're going to have to re-do the edge.

To paraphrase an OLD joke (that's a bit descriptive for the forum)

Mention you used a carbide sharpener ONE time and everyone starts calling you a KNIFE ABUSER!

:D

If you say so. Some might say that using a knife sharpener to regrind a knife when it was never designed for that is abusive to the knife:D. Some might say trying to cut a mango pit in half is abusive to the knife:D.

I don't think there's a problem unless you're suggesting to others that they try the same.

Yup, if it works for the OP, then good for him. It doesn't work for most people who are discriminating about their edges.

Love the video.
You convinced me being that I didn't know any better.
I'll take my Wustuff 2 stage sharpener and toss it out the window.
Didn't realize it was doing much more damage then good.

Before you toss it, break it into a dozen pieces so no one else ever uses it. :D
