Sad day in bawannaville

Thanks everybody for good wishes and thoughts.

Now when I get nagged or yelled at I just think of him and realize I'm on easy street.

Wish I could see what's going on down there but I got a hunch it ain't peaceful and easy going in the least.

I sort of lean towards peaceful and easy going as time goes by. Might say my get up and go got up and went sometime back.

You will have good memories, as your son will, of this experience, Bawanna.
I can still remember the intermittent Skype calls that my son and I shared with both of us trying not to cry we missed each other so badly. Neither of us wanted to start and be responsible for breaking the other down. :)
Here is my fondest picture of that time. My son and his friend went on a hike up into the mountains near camp and this picture was taken. It always reminds me of how proud I am of him.

The lad is probably doing just fine, but methinks his old man is not so resilient. Bawanna, to cheer you up I'll be sending you some fresh, clear, and very smooth mouth worsh. Don't be smokin' when you "gargle". Eatin' chips and ham sandwiches is O.K., though.

Well now that right there is mighty thoughtful of ya Mr. Bookie.

I just polished off a bottle of medicinal scotch. Somehow I lost the cap and didn't want it to go to waste ya know?

I'm sure it's not nearly as good as your mouth worsh, I do look forward to it.

The no open flames warning usually is a guarantee of good quality mouth worsh.

Learned the hard way: Mouth worsh and camp fire=bad day. Learned that after my dog knocked a jar a bit close to the fire pit. Glad I left with eyebrows y'know?

Them eyebrows grow back, been there done that more than once.

Terribly wasteful of the mouth worsh though. Once it burns you can't soak it up and wring it out over you mouth ya know?

Course maybe down that way it's more plentiful and not nearly as big a deal.

Nearly everyone's has them their own recipe for it up this way. Gotta stay warm in the winter months after all!

We finally got a letter from my recruit last night with more than 5 words.

Sounds like he is doing fine. Says it's not so bad. Still a lot of screaming and yelling but the food is good and plentiful and a wide variety. He's lost 5 lbs and he didn't have 5 to lose, he was pretty lean going in.

He likes class since they get to apparently sit down for that. Had no clue what day it is as they get up and going in the dark and quit after dark.

Apparently one of the Assistant DI's tried to impress them and threw a canteen at my boy and called him a
b!tch. My boy apparently laughed, DI's DO NOT like to be laughed at although he said it really was funny.

Been issued his M16 A4 and says they take them apart and clean them at least 3 or 4 times a week. No mention if they get to shoot them yet. He did mention several of his fellow recruits really got no business even looking at a gun. I told him before he left to be on the look out for those, they are the ones that will get you.

He's anxious to be done, said all the piddly stuff I ever asked for help with will seem like a day off now.

I need to sit down and write him a letter back, mom has wrote a couple times, probably do him good. Didn't have a girlfriend when he left that I know about, maybe I'll find a picture of one and send it so he can brag to his mates. Hey maybe Cutie Curls would do it. Be still my heart.

Hey maybe I'll post his address here and we can all inundate the Marine Corp recruit depot with mail?

Now that thar's an idea.

Yes, DIs definately do not have a sense of humor about themselves. BUT, they do have a strange sense of just how far they can push. Remember a DIs job is 2 fold. 1 to get out the guys that definately don't belong and 2 to provide the ones that do belong the foundation they need to be successful in their career (however short or long that is, 1 enlistment or 30yr retiree) So it is a fine line between motivating and breaking that they need to walk. Sounds like your Boy has the right attitude that will make him a DIs pet project. Pushing him a bit extra because they see him as worth the extra effort and able to take it without washing out. It might sound unfair, but it really will help the entire unit AND he will come out of it with some extra benefits too. Thanks for the update, great to hear he is doing well.
