So, i really learned my lesson on wednesday. I had just gotten a brand new Umnumzaan that day(incredible knife by the way). I ended up in the company of a friend and his aquaintance later that day for a couple beers, and going against my better judgement, i let both of them inspect my new knife. Well, after taking my eyes off the knife for only a few minutes(i know, bad idea) i made a nauseating discovery after it was returned to me. Where the fine factory tip had once been, was now a flattened point.....BARF. It looks as if the point made contact with another hard surface. Without going into great detail as to the asinine explanation i received, i will say that the knife is already on its way back to CRK to hopefully be repaired. -problem is, i am afraid that they might have to alter the shape of the knife in order to do so. Which, brings me to this question: does anybody know if CRK will do a complete blade replacement???* and what it might cost??* any input is greatly appreciated.

You probably could have sharpened it out yourself.

I'm sorry to hear that. CRK can fix it but you will have to ask them how much a new blade would cost.

Eventually we all learn. Nobody gets to handle your toothbrush or your knife. :)

Sorry to hear that your new knife got damaged. Sounds like your friends may have seen the Cold Steel DVD.

I for one would be interested to hear the asinine explanantion that they provided.

6 pack of beers: $5 CRK Umnumzaan: $400 1 a-hole apparently trying to do a speed draw too close to a stainless kitchen countertop: Frickin priceless. Cool thing is,...new friends are free.* ;)

$5 for a six pack? Man, you guys get it cheap over there. Then again, I'm a bit of a beer snob, so perhaps it's just me.

I probably would've just sharpened it out. Wouldn't look all that pretty, but it works.

I am sorry that your new Umnumzaan got damaged. This is why I DO NOT lend out my knives, EVER.

I admire you for taking a philosophical view.......I would have gone nuts and then I would have gotten really angry:foot::D

Seriously I only give my knives to "knife people" to look at. Others simply cannot understand the value and etiquette.

I am sure that CRK will return your Umnumzaan to it's previous glory.....

Sorry to hear that, man I probably would have gone nuts when I saw what happened to my brand new Umnumzaan. I also wouldnt mind hearing the story behind this.

Justice would have called for your friend to be poked with the blunt knife. I think Wu Tang talked about that procedure.
I'm a believer in the "you break, you buy" policy.

If someone did that to my knife, they would have just bought themselves a nice new damaged knife. I would not foot the bill.

Yep, I never lend my good knives out anymore. I once lent out a 70's era Puma prince, (which was my pride and joy at the time,) and the guy used it as a screw driver. He slightly damaged the tip and I had it fixed in minutes. The part that bothered me was I had a pocket screwdriver with me at the time.. At the very least, I ask people I trust what they want to use it for before letting them use a knife.

That really bites. Do you know how it happened? One of the reasons to never lend out a knife..

I'd make your "friend" pay for the repair. Seriously. Show him what that knife is worth, the quality of the company, and tell him to ante up.

A friend of mine threw one of my antique chisels into a countertop, trying to make it stick, and broke a 1/4" off the front corner bevel. (I spent an afternoon fixing it.) :grumpy: Later, when I wouldn't let him use any of my tools, he counseled me on my, uh, "trust issues". (I'm glad to say I run with a better class of friends now.)

Anything else I have, as far as knives, I'll show someone with the disclaimer, "you break it, you pay for fixing it."

thx - cpr

And razor. When I was in college I shared an apartment with some good people. But I recal walking by the bathroom to see one of my roommates shaving her legs with my razor…I had been wondering why I had to keep replacing the heads so often.
