Saddleback Leather: Wallets

I pulled at the plastic enough to see if it had the "Blue" logo, which it does.
I can't see that its any different than the one that I sent back, so I'm deciding whether to keep it or not.

I gave a med wallet to a co worker for his birthday. He is not using it because it was breaking all his cards.I told him to send it in but he most likely will not, shame it is just going to sit unused.

You may want to try the SBL small wallet or their large bifold wallet. Although it is a larger wallet it will have a thinner profile since the cards are stacked. Another fine leather company is www.willowbrookleather.com. All of their leather items, including wallets, are made in Missouri. Their wallets are leather lined as well. Although they are constructed of much thinner leather they don't have the 100 year warranty that SBL does. Your cards will not break either. They have multiple styles to choose from as well. Just an option.

Good Luck!

I have the large SBL bilfold as well.
But I carry my wallet in my front pocket - its just a little to large to get in and out easily.
SBL should make a wallet about 3/4 inch less high than the large with card pockets vertical instead of horizontal.
I like the leather, but they really need to redesign it.
Thanks for the link - don't know if I should post it, but I bought the #2 here: http://www.leathergoodsconnection.com/
after a suggestion by another BF member - cards stack and haven't had any problems.
Don't get me wrong - I am a fan of SBL - I have one of their messenger bags and an XL briefcase.
But they need to do a total redesign on their wallets as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for that link.I am really liking the tri fold they have.

After reading many threads and purchasing three SBL wallets, I agree with John. An overwhelming majority of the folks on this and other forums love the rustic vibe, quality build, and leather of SBL wallets. I do think however Dave needs to revisit the design of the line. Maybe a bit more refinement, slightly thinner leather, and more of a taper on edges? I don't know....but with both my medium bi folds, cards did crack ..... But even beyond that, their bulk made it seem I was sticking my bills between two ribeyes. If the line gets a make over, I will revisit....but for now I am very happy with my Makr.

If thickness is your primary criteria then the Medium bi-fold is the worst choice of them all. It is thicker than even the Large because the cards are in individual staggered slots. The small and Large bi-folds are thinner because cards are stacked on top of each other.

An up date on the one I gave my friend for his birthday. He called and told them of the problem. They asked if he bought it,he replied he got it from me as a gift. They told him I would have to call.I just called and told them I had bought it brand new from a member here. They sad I would need the name of the original person that bought it from or the order #.I can't find the thread from where I bought it so no way to get the name.
I guess if anyone buys one from anyone other the Saddleback they really need to get the original order number with it if they want a warranty.

pretty interesting considering their warranty says: "If you or one of your lucky descendents should have a problem, send it back and we'll repair or replace it for free"

clearly implying the warranty transfers with it--as a 100 year warranty should :p

If I ever buy another Saddleback product it will be directly from Saddleback unless it is very low priced.I will not ever buy one as a gift.I really do not want the hassle of handling the warranty for the person I give it too.

That's weird. I purchased a small wallet a year or so ago and my credit card extended past the top of the leather. I called them and informed them of the problem. Not only did they ship me a new one but they didn't want me to ship the defective one back to them. It was very easy to get them to replace it. I figured they made it so easy was because the wallet was only $29. Oh well.....surprises me you had issues.

We were talking about it today. The thing that really got me was he said he told them he had the wallet in hand and would ship it back to them on his dime.

Post this story on facebook. Take them to task on a public forum and see what happens. I'd wager things go much more smoothly.

I am done with it all.Anything more would be from the man I gave it too.
Never again will I give one as a gift. After this I will most likely not ever buy one for myself.

The warranty extends to friends who received a product as a gift as well. Have your friend email ihaveaquestion@saddlebackleather.com and they will take good care of him. We are sorry that his wallet caused his card to break. We will take good care of him. Cheers

My friend got his replacement wallet and sent the old one in.He does really like the design.I am still hoping for a tri fold.

My new medium bifold showed up last night. The leather is much thinner than the leather of the old one that was breaking cards... the wallet as a whole is much more flexible. Fully loaded it is about as thick as the old one with nothing in it.

Just a bit of followup on this... the new wallet (doesn't have any blue logo) made it about a year before it started breaking cards as well. I just looked at the site and I don't see the medium wallet listed anymore. Was this design discontinued?

Interesting....

I've had my medium about a year now also. At first I did have a card or two, although in fairness they were older cards.

Since then I've started putting my cards in the slots upside-down. I figured that way even if they did the magnetic strip would still be intact. However, since making the switch..... no more broken cards.
