Saddleback Leather: Wallets

Asking for the large chestnut for christmas. A liiiiiittle leery of the size, but it's such a nice wallet, I think I'll just buy it and then figure out what works in terms of carry. One other thing. I've been tempted by the passport wallet because the thought of putting my edc moleskin volant in the pocket. Any suggestions? Would that be worth it or should I just go with the large wallet?

I don't think it's worth it.

Ok, so I have the Wallet ID in Tobacco and it's awesome (I'll try and gets some pics up tomorrow). The one negative is that it doesn't hold much cash and it can be a PITA to get cash in/out.

I keep window shopping the bifold wallets and can't decide between the medium or the large. I'm kinda leaning towards the large since, all things equal, it should be a bit thinner due to the design. Some people seem to think the medium is too thick, but others don't seem to mind.

It seems a lot of youguys have the large wallet, but do any of you carry it in your front pocket? I started carrying that way a few years back and refuse to keep a wallet anywhere else since the switch. I think I'd like the wallet - I'm just concerned it will be tough to get in and out of a front pocket.

Woops - I've read through this thread before, but not recently. I just went back to the first page after I posted and saw at least 1 person who front carries the large.

Does anyone have a pic showing the thickness of the Wallet ID next to the medium or large bifold? Or even showing the thickness of the medium vs large?

I read the post about front carry as well and ordered the large bifold in dark coffee this week.
I've been carrying my wallet (trifold) in my front pocket for about 20 years - since a chiropractor advised me to get it out of my back pocket - has made a huge difference.

My dad started the front pocket carry when his chiro told him the same thing and he convinced me shortly after. Makes a BIG difference imo.

Be sure to let us know how you like it once it arrives, oh, and the more pictures the better :D

I've carried wallets in my front pocket for years. In New York City, it's considered safer from pickpockets, and it can be easier to get to if you're in a car or wearing a heavy coat.

The large bifold might be a problem because of the circumference, not so much the thickness -- unless you really pack a lot in there, like I do.

That's kinda what I was thinking. The width of the large is roughly the same as the length of the Wallet ID I have - I've tried putting in my front pocket sideways to simulate the width of the large and it was, uh, snug to say the least. Obviously the type of pants you wear regularly may affect what wallet fits comfortably.

I wear jeans most of the time.
I tend to have a lot of stuff in my wallet, so I figure the medium will be really thick.
A lot of times when my trifold has too much in it, I'll unfold one side - like you guys said - snug.
But I don't carry anything else in that pocket, so I'm hoping it will be ok.

I just received the small bifold wallet along with a case for my iPhone 4. I am extremely, EXTREMELY, happy with the quality of the products from Saddleback. The leather feels amazing! It is true that the leather is stiff at first, but after a couple of days, my iPhone case is already shaped nicely. The small bifold is perfect for my needs and I try to keep my cards to a minimum. After looking over reviews and pictures, I thought the medium might have been too thick. I got the Coffee Brown, which is an awesome colour.

Anyways, if you're on the cusp of ordering a product from Saddleback, I say "Do it!".

If you bought an ID wallet and can't fit all your cash in you bought the wrong size didn't you?

For me it's not that it won't fit enough cash, because I typically don't have a large number of bills on me. It will actually fit a decent amount of cash, imo. Not a lot, but a decent amount.

The problem arises when I buy something and get change back from a $20. The 5-6 bills will "fit" in the cash slot, but it's such a tight fit that it's a nuisance. Don't get me wrong, I don't want a loose fit where money falls out. Just the nature of the beast (ID wallet) I suppose.

Anyway, here are a few bad cell phone pics of my ID wallet in Tobacco color after about a year of use:

You can see the lighter color that has seen zero wear. This color really gets a nice patina with use.

That's precisely why tobacco is my favorite SBL color!

Got my large bilfold in Dark Coffe Brown - very well made, but it is huge - fits in my pocket ok, but tough to get out.
Maybe when it breaks in a bit it won't be as much of a pain, but I don't like having my $ bills down so deep in the wallet.
I just ordered a medium in tobbacco brown.

Birthday is coming up soon and the girlfriend ordered a black large bifold for me. It should be here this week.

I've been carrying my medium size for about a week. It fits into my front pocket much easier than the large did, but it just doesn't do it for me.
I guess I carry too much stuff - liscense, several credit cards, LTC Ids., check cashing cards for grocery stores, car registration, notes, appointment reminder cards :( and cash - makes it a little over an inch thick - maybe a little more in the center of the wallet.
Where can I make a recommendation to Dave for a medium - large size wallet ;) ?
Maybe an inch or so off the height looking at the wallet (large) in the open position.
Should have either the card slots like the medium style or change the orientation of the ones on the large to vertical, so its easier to get the cards out. It would also make it easier to get your cash in and out - the main pocket is just too deep on the large.
Just my 2 cents.

My girlfriend ordered me a medium bifold in tobacco and gave it to me last night as a bday gift. I love it and hope it lasts forever. I was bragging on it at dinner tonight and my brother and dad want one and my mom.wants a camera bag, shes a photographer. Im going to try and take a weekly pic of the wallet to show how the tobacco ages since iv had trouble finding pics of this color.

Nice job by your girlfriend and great idea with the pictures. You should definitely start a new thread with pics of the new wallet and then update it periodically with new pics.

I've been considering a medium wallet and thought for sure I'd decided on the chestnut color. But now I keep going back and forth between that and the tobacco that I like so much in my ID wallet.

I'd been thinking about a medium bi-fold for a while, but a lot of the reviews I've read (especially the ones @ Amazon.com) had me convinced that it would just be too thick & thus uncomfortable to carry in my back pocket.

Well, I went ahead and bought one anyways (coffee color) because $50. isn't so much to gamble these days. I received it 3 weeks ago & was surprised by how light and how thin it is. It's really only a tiny bit thicker than the Dockers wallet that I'm replacing, & it's much nicer quality. If I had a single complaint it would be that it doesn't hold quite as many cards as my last wallet did. But the truth is I was probably carrying too much stuff in my wallet before.

I highly recommend the Saddleback bi-fold. I'm not sure why they're not charging $75. for them, they're that nice.
