Safer way to close a folder ?

I find that using a particular knife a lot for work tends to.give.one.the muscle memory to.operate it safely. :)

1) Remove Pants
2) Place knife between legs with point of blade facing rearward
3) Disengage lock and push upward using area between rectum and man parts, doing best to avoid slippage.

I heard a story once about a guy who absent mindedly tried to close his Axis lock Benchmade and ended up pushing it into his thigh muscle...ouch.

I just spinewhack mine closed.

What?

NeilB, be advised: If you ever pick up a Cold Steel folder, your days of spinewhacking 'em closed are over.

Impossible to do with CS... I seen it on a you-tube something-or-other, and their fans will confirm my story ad nauseum.

You'll have to jam it into a combat boot full of pork chops and disengage the lock. Sorry, but thems the rules.

And the Pacific Northwest is indeed the Mecca of beer. Born-on-date Schmorn-on-schmate... this stuff was made this morning!

Actually, when it comes to some knives like the douk-douk, CS pocket bushman and others which many complain about cutting themselves while closing, I find that holding the spine and closing the HANDLE onto the blade works very well. Try it, you may like it :D or maybe not :(.

I can understand why people complain about the Pocket Bushman, because the instructions Cold Steel includes with the knife show a stupid and dangerous way to grip it. Pinch behind the thumb stud with your forefinger and thumb, however, and it's easy as pie--even when wet. :)

If you consider a folder one where the blade closes into the handle then a dual-action out-the-front auto is about the safest closer.

Statmonster, are you looking for a "in-the-front" auto?

You silly goof.... nobody would buy such an invention.

Maybe the world fell for "anti-lock brakes", but we ain't gonna fool 'em again.

..." which is then stopped by my pointer finger hitting the choil."
...in those cases where the blade has a choil...

I've been blooded a few times, but it's all in fun.

I have done this occasionally, and it works well, of course.

I usually deactuate the lock and then fold the blade closed against my outer thigh.

ABS....
Also known as "stop 100ft after you NEED to".

I'm just guessing, but you must think that dual-action means that the actuator cocks the blade and then fires instead of firing and retracting. Uh, yeh I can see that.:D

I open and close my Delica one handed pretty much as fast as say a linerlock.
Another way to close it... disengage the lock with your thumb, pointer finger in the hole :foot: then bring your thumb to your pointer finger en swing that thing closed...

Yep, reversed spyder drop

I snapped a video yesterday of a one-handed closure method with midlock Spydercos. Just gotta' do a little processing to make it prettier than a raw clip and then upload it.

I've never really noticed someone closing a folder by holding the spine against the palm and bringing the handles down toward the blade with the other hand. Perhaps this is the safest way to close a folder as the edge is not moving toward the hand. Please see the 6:30 mark in this video. What do you think ?

Yeah, but the hand is then traveling towards the edge so not much difference. Still, its a two hand method which seems pretty safe either way. But I prefer to close all my folders one handed. Getting bit makes one learn quickly.[emoji6]
