Swamp Rat Ratweiler Passaround

Special Note: You must have been a member for at least 6 months AND be some level of paying membership. No exceptions!

Please remember that I have the right to refuse a member's participation in this passaround if I feel his/her reputation leaves little to be desired.

I want to make this abundantly clear: If you lose the knife or it gets lost in shipment going from you to the next person, you'll need to come up with $300 to cover the purchase price.

By signing up or by participating in any way with this passaround you agree to meet and abide by all of the following rules, terms, and conditions:

1. You must agree to, and abide by, any and all of the Bladeforums.com passaround rules which can be viewed here:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262872ee

2. You must reside in the USA. This means that the knife must always stay within the borders of the USA. The knife must be mailed to a USA street address, not a PO Box.

3. It is your responsibility to ensure that the passaround knife is used, carried and/or possessed in a safe and lawful manner from the time that it is delivered to you or your address until you mail it to the next participant.

4. You are 18 years of age or older and considered an adult in the county/state in which you reside.

5. You can legally posses, carry, ship, and receive the Ratweiler in the county/state that you reside.

6. You take full responsibility for the Ratweiler and its use while its in your possession.

7. You must understand that you are participating in research and your comments and conversations about the Ratweiler are exclusively limited to Bladeforums.com.

8. You may keep the Ratweiler for up to one (1) week, and YOU MUST PERSONALLY** send/mail it to the next participant on the Ratweiler Passaround list by way of USPS Priority Mail, with delivery confirmation and insured for $300. If UPS or FedEx is a better option for you, you may send/mail it with those carriers as long as the package is tracked and insured for $300. Postage is to be paid by the participants; this is the price of participating in this passaround (pretty cheap if you ask me :D). After the list is closed and there's a final list, I'll PM each participant with information about the address they must mail the Ratweiler to after their one week.

**[This is your responsibility, please do not rely on anyone else to mail it for you.]

9. If you're comfortable with your sharpening skills, you may go ahead and sharpen the knife. I acknowledge that the edge has been thinned a bit and is not as it came from the factory, but please try not to thin it out any more. Just touch the edge up enough so that it's at a usable sharpness.

When you receive the Ratweiler, please post in this thread as soon as possible so that we can keep track of it. Also, note the condition of the knife as it is received and please report any discrepancies/inconsistencies as to the condition the knife was in when it left the previous participant. In such case, call or e-mail me, and I will determine if the knife should be sent back. Just as you need to post here when you receive the Ratweiler, please post when you send/mail it on to the next person.

And (this is a big one), PLEASE post a review in this thread or, even better, start a new thread with your review. One of the reasons I wanted to get a passaround going is to give those who haven't had the chance to feel, fondle, stare at, or use a Ratweiler the opportunity to do so. In this way, we can enrich the knife community and hopefully inspire others to do the same even if its not as explicit as a passaround.

Fugawee, I'm not worried about it breaking while it's being used...we're covered by Swamp Rat's impeccable warranty! If that's the only thing holding you back, please give it another consideration .

I'm too much of a slug to be sure I will get around to using it and shipping it in a timely manner. I really like be idea and look forward to the result though.

One question I would like to ask, who is responsible for how sharp the knife is? Is it to be sharpened at the users decretion or used as is? Forgive if that's a odd question.

Oh, you got me there. The knife is semi-sharp as it is but I think I'll allow whoever participates to "touch up" the edge if it dulls a little. The edge is nowhere near factory (it's been thinned a bit) but I wouldn't want the edge to be any thinner.

Thanks for pointing this out Lazi, I'll add it to the original post....

STILL LOOKING FOR PARTICIPANTS!!!!

You could always try to post this in the pass around forum! I dunno...

Can't believe there isn't more interest.
