Sage 1 vs. Persistence - close photo comparison

ZDHart, great photos, and I agree with you 100% on your comments on the grip of the two knives. The Sage definitely has a nicer handle but in terms of grip it's a little awkward as you said.

Nice review. I have both & would agree, I prefer the Persistence also, especially if you take into consideration the price.

I own a Tenacious. I've always thought the blade was too long and when the Persistence came out, I should have rushed to buy one. Your wonderfully portrayed review has reawakened those feelings in me. We read so much about the Sage being a "grail" knife that I was surprised to see the Persistence clearly holding its own. Great job!

But I think I'll take the clip off and use it for deep pocket carry. :D

Sal, I totally agree about a sprint run in S30V. That would be the bomb, as kids say.

Nice review and pictures. I had the Tenacious and got rid of it. The Persistence looks like a better size for EDC for me but I do think the blade shapes look a little funny on both. Shallow of me, I know.
I have a Sage1 and it's almost perfect to me. I love the ergonomics when using the choil, no folder I've ever held feels better. The carbon fiber is nice, the s30v is one of the best steels I've used and same for the wire clip.
They're both great knives for the money but I'll always spend more on a better knife especially to avoid supporting China.

I love the ergonomics when using the choil...

Hoopster... I agree with you, using the choil is definitely the best way to hold the Sage and it does feel good that way! Holding the Sage farther back just doesn't work for me either. The Sage is a great knife for sure.

Funny thing... I did the same thing... bought a Tenacious and while I really liked it, it was bigger than I wanted for EDC, so I returned it. (After I sent it back I regretted doing so.) I was impressed enough with the Tenacious that I decided to try the Persistence for EDC and, voila, it was a home run from the moment I opened the box!

I actually have mentioned it a couple times and even started a thread on the Sage handle ergonomics. The cut out for access to the liner/ frame lock bar comes too far back. My index finger falls into it resulting in a 'tighter' grip on that finger and is uncomfortable. One of the reasons my Sage II ti is still sitting in the box. The new Sage III with bolt lock looks like it won't have the cutout and I definitely plan on picking one of those up. Plus it should be similar to an AXIS lock and be totally ambidextrous.

Great review/comparison!

Although the sage definitely wins me over due to the premium materials and the ergos [for me] this review is/will be extremely beneficial to the person looking for a cheaper GOOD knife with similar qualities.

Thank you for your time to do this run down, sure many will appreciate the time you took to do this.

ZippoTKT and others, thanks for appreciating the comparison. I know I would have appreciated seeing this myself when I was thinking about getting the Persistence (I would have bought it much sooner!). I've learned so much from so many of you, I'm glad if I can give something back.

I know your a pro photographer, but those photos are really nice, thanks fro the great review ZD

After watching a lot of knife videos on YouTube I just had to try my hand at one. Crazy, I know. Like we need more knife videos already. ;)

So here's my first video comparing these two knives. Made late at night, so I was speaking softly so as to not awaken others. I thought about redoing it, but oh well. ;)

Trying to embed, but doesn't look like I'm doing this correctly....

see dinozzo's post below...

Great photos and comparison:thumbup::thumbup: I wouldve never thought they were so similar in size:confused::D:D

What an awesome review and comparison! Great photos too!
You know I have a Tenacious already, but for some reason I
still kind of want the Persistance. I handled the Sage 2 recently
in a passaround. Great knife. But I will say that I agree with
you in that I like the ergos of the Tenacious better as if you
lay your index in the knotch in the handle of the Sage it is a
bit awkward.

Thanks for the excellent review and photos! It's nice for those of us who don't have brick and mortar stores to see things up close and personal.

Hey dinozzo... can we change up the link in your post? I've redone the video and the new version is a lot better than the first...
