Sage 1 vs. Sage 2

Thanks for the pics,Zippo. The cf looks good, but I'm not sold yet. On a purely aesthetic basis I prefer the RIL and open frame TI construction, but to each his own.

Your welcome cgm and i'd have to agree with you! im a tad more in favor for the Ti, this may also be in anticipation for the release of the Military Ti, trying to keep myself from getting one before the Ti version comes out. ;]

There's no "bad" choice here, you can't go wrong with either one.

I don't have the Sage 2, but the Sage 1 is in my pocket as I type now (like most every day). It's an awsome EDC and I don't worry about scratching it.

A Ti RIL is my favorite handle, so I love my SageII. My second favorite lock is the walker liner lock, and I like CF, so I may pick up a SageI.

Carried my Sage 1 today, great knife. Haven' t handled a Sage 2, so it's a bit hard to judge objectively but I do like the feel of the CF scales; bare metal can be a bit slick. Ditto on the fit and finish, the Sage is a very well made knife:thumbup:

I own two of each. I've been carrying my user Sage 2 for going on 4 months straight now. Mainly because it's already got some "love marks" but really no other reason compared to the Sage 1. The bottom line is I think the Sages are one of the best medium duty carrys from Spyderco. Just "one" of the best but one of the best none the less.

I have both and I prefer the Sage I for carry. The grippy CF scales does it for me.

I think the sage I is prettier, but drop my II, and broke a tiny bit of the point off:mad: I wished they came in ZPD189, and you would never have to sharpen them! The I gets lonely without it brother II. Haha.

Sage 1 hands down, I am not a fan of metal handeled knives or frame locks. Cant wait for the next and next sage.

The Sage I is absolutely gorgeous in CF. Too bad it uses a liner lock. For that reason alone, I will not own one. I do plan on getting and carrying the Sage II.

The rational part of my brain said I shouldn't have spent the money, but I'm glad I didn't listen to it.:)

Thanks to Zippo I got the Sage 2 at a really good price, but I wasn't attracted to the carbon fiber Sage 1 so it wasn't hard to resist it even when the prices dropped back in mid December. But then the prices dropped again by another 25% or so and I just couldn't resist any longer.

UPS just delivered my Sage 1 this afternoon, and while the Ti RIL Sage 2 is still my favorite it's a close call. Like Zippo said; it's about a 51% vs. 49% kind of situation.

But what an amazing knife the Sage 1 is. This is my first cf knife. I've read that some cf knives, such as the Native, I believe, are smooth. That's certainly not the case w/ the Sage 1. The texture of the cf scales is amazing. It's beautiful to look at and the feel is unlike any knife I've ever held before.

In comparing the two knives, both seem to be evenly balanced, though the Sage 1 weighs about 0.1 oz less than the Sage 2. There is absolutely no blade play in the Sage 1 and the Walker linerlock is robust and very secure.

Both of these knives are great, and to anyone who is still undecided: you really can't go wrong with either one.

Here are the Sage 1 & 2 together.

And here are the two Sages with the two knives that influenced their design; the Native and Caly 3.

Sage 2 because it's a super well made framelock with all the stuff spyderco brings to the table. I think for the price and what you get it just can't be beat. Although the sage1 at the current prices is a steal they're just not ti framelocks. I think they're both kind of slippery and wish that some kind of pattern or lines were milled into it for better traction but it's still a great knife.

Nice pictures cgm!
Don't own the Caly 3, but I did just pick up the Native 2 and 4. Still like my Sage 2, but the CF Native is beautiful and a small/thin package.

I've been tempted by the Native 4, but I'm going to try to hold off making any more purchases for a little while.

Sage 1 all the way. I've been EDC'ing it for the last 6 days and I've been impressed. It's so light in my pocket that I find myself checking to make sure I still have it throughout the day.

I owned the Sage I and loved it. When the Sage II came out, I got that as well and ended up selling the first. Personally I like the minimalist look of the Ti. But more so, it just handles like a more solid knife all around.

I have the Sage I, am about to purchase the II
The only thing that's holding me back, is the cost for a II
Up here its close to $200.00 being its a RIL lock and titanium it makes it all worth it, right? :p
