Sage 5 - what is it rumored to be?

Here's What I Think They Should Do....
Compression Lock
Titanium Liners - Flamed Blue
Toxic Green G-10 Grooved
Titanium Low Rider Clip - Also Flamed Blue
s30v - Or Even Better Steel

I Also Like The Idea Of The Micarta.. But It Must Be Grooved. I Feel This Would Add A More Different Feel To The Knife And Would Sell Really Well.

We Don't Need Super Classy - The Sage One Or Two Or Even The Four Fill That. We Need A Super Sweet Work Horse.

Sal already said they won't do a Compression Lock version due to the fact they want to honors other peoples innovative locking mechs. Which really sucks because that would be one AWESOME knife! Hopefully he ends up changing his mind and we see a Sage 6 with a compression lock. :D

When did he say that?

I don't recall him saying they wouldn't. I do recall him saying one of the reasons he selected the Taichung maker for the Sage project was their ability to make all the locks involved, including the compression lock. It's harder to do than most people think, and very few makers can do it right.

It's on the Spyderco forum, under discussion about the compression lock when a new sage with one was mentioned. Should be able to find it by searching new sage.

The Sage series was made to honor innovative locking mechanism designers. And while the Compression lock IMO is amazing and one of my favorite, it definitely makes since considering there are probably more people they would like to honor before honoring themselves.

I'd love to see a Sage with a compression lock and light colored micarta or G10, with a stonewashed finish in the clip. I want to try a compression lock, and it would complement the Sage I nicely. It does seem kind of arrogant to honor your own locking mechanism, so maybe Spyderco could just call it something other than "Sage".

I, for one, cannot wait to purchase the new Spyderco Rosemary with a compression lock and light tan micarta.

I think it would be cool if they would do a compression lock Chaparral. It's a bit smaller than the Sage but similar in shape. The point of the Chaparral is different scale materials so they could definitely change the locking mech. But I really would like to see the compression lock Sage though, I certainly wouldn't hold it against them if they did do one ;)

That is the most ignorant comment I have ever heard.

I'm just thinking out loud here but I could see the Sage 5 maybe being like a tribute to Mick Strider or Duane D. ( I know these two aren't the most ethical guys in the world but they sure as heck produced some nifty folders ) and looking like a scaled down Strider folder of some sort in of course S30V and making use of a Frame lock.

Bumping an ooooooold one.

I've been giving this some more thought and I think a waved Sage liner-lock with a thumb-disk (and a hole obviously) would be cool (a-la Emerson).

Maybe an assisted-opener with a thumb-stud (and again - a hole).

Surely enough time has passed where there's some new info out there.

There was similar topic, some time ago - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/920229-sage-5-compression-lock-in-honor-of-Sal
I think compression lock and micarta handles will be best choice too :)
Also - better steel will be great. Something like CTS-204P :)

What about the Paul W. Poehlmann Axial lock??

A Sage with silver twill G10, bolster and the Axial lock would be pretty cool.

After that the benchmade bought lone wolf knives, axial lock patent is now property of benchmade, so its not very likely, imo.

I think the Sage series should be made in the US. I know they are good quality knives, but I think it subtracts from the value to have "Taiwan" stamped on the blades. I'd be willing to pay $50 more to have them made in Japan, or the US.

You may need to adjust your opinion on Taiwan, then. It seems to be conflicting with reality.

Actually the truth seems to be that you get more value out of the knives produced in Taiwan. The Gayle Bradley being a good example..

My Techno is from Taiwan, the fit and finish is better than some of the Spydercos I have from Japan, and it's as good or better than some Spydercos I have from Golden. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the Taiwan Spydercos.

Axis lock honoring McHenry and Williams for all the marbles! Hehe, just kidding... Well... If BM was "aloud" to use the Spyderhole I don't see why Spyderco cant be "allowed" to honor the Axis lock's inventors... Ok ok, just kidding.
