Sage II... When?

I have had my Sage for about 5 months and probably would not have bought it if I had realized it was made in Taiwan. I try to support US made products as much as possible. I did not look close enough because I thought all S30V Sypderco's were made in the US, (although I do feel a little bit better knowing that a lot of the production was done in the US. Thanks for the info. Sal.)

That being said, the Sage is an Awesome knife. Great materials and quality is excellent. I would say the fit and finish is close to perfect, and probably better than my BM 940 and Mini-Grip. I love the blade shape and the ergonomics are perfect for my hand. I paid $85 on ebay for the Sage, but I believe the knife could easily sell for a lot more than that.

It would be interesting to have the exact same knife also produced in Golden. One selling for $90 and the Golden selling for $130. I wonder which would sell more. I know which one (or two or more) I would buy.

Nothing wrong with choosing to buy US made. What bothers people is the lumping of Taiwan and mainland China together. They are 2 very different countries.

That, plus the implication that anything made in Taiwan is automatically second or third rate. I've yet to see any Spyderco that can beat the CF Sage for fit and finish.

Everyone has a right to spend their money as they see fit, even if it means putting country of origin above quality. I may consider them fools, but it's still their right. But only someone who had never handled a Sage could compare to CRKT's offerings and not expect to be challenged.

Is the MSRP really going to be $264.95? If so that's a huge jump from the Sage I and way too high.

Yes. Dealer price is half the MSRP so they'll probably be available many places for around $150.

The current MSRP for the original Sage is $179.95. The MSRP for the Rock Lobster with a VG-10 blade and G-10 handle is $329.95. Considering the Sage II will have a S30V blade, titanium handle and RIL, that seems like a better deal to me, particularly if the workmanship is as superb as on the original Sage. Care to imagine what the MSRP would be if the Sage II was manufactured in Japan or the USA instead of Taiwan?

Since this is my thread I'd like to ask everyone to stop with the Taiwan made vs. USA made nonsense. All I want is a release date. This isn't the place to flame a company for where they decide to have a knife put together. The Sage is solidly built and let's keep it at that.

Now that that is all said and done. I'm still waiting to see if Sal will hit us with a date.

ROBB is that a Spyderco? No Spyderhole on it.

I bought the Sage because of the Salsa Ti, a finely made piece also made in Tiwan. Knew it would be first class, and is.

I like the plan (of Sal's) to expand the Golden plant, as I recall, is going to make some knives in 154CM(a steel I like almost as much as VG10).:):)

That's the Jess Horn something. IIRC of course. It's the only Spyderco without the round hole opener.

Jeeze archieblue got thrown up against the locker and pounded by a bunch of know-it-all jerks. I feel for you man, everyone likes american made things, but if its a quality product i think im gonna get it because the knife industry really doesn't make up that much of the imports from there.

...

We appreciate yours as well as all other opinions. In fact we appreciate your point of view.

FYI, the steel for the Sage is made in New York. We ship it in to Taiwan.

The clip & Clip assembly is made in Colorado, also shipped in.

The design is 100% American (mine). The majority of the profit stays in America.

...

In my humble opinion, buying American is always best. We're growing our US factory all of the time.

Bravo Sal, you are a class act. For what it's worth, for me as a purchaser of knives, Made in USA is a checkmark in the plus column. Glad to hear you are increasing manufacturing capacity in Golden Colorado, USA (earth).

I just purchased my first USA made spyderco, the D2 Para Military. It should be here by Friday and I will be proud to have a US made Spyderco.

I love my others (Sage, Caly3, Native4), but like I said, Made in USA is a plus for me.

Thanks for making quality product and for running a classy business.

I love the Sage (and will love the new one), but didn't I read somewhere that this is a Michael Walker design? Did he have a hand in this one?

The liner lock was the Michael Walker design part, as far as I know. The blade and handle were not.

Walker was one of the first to use CF for scales as well. That is why the Sage I is a CF scaled liner lock.

If I recall each Sage produced will feature a different lock, the liner lock being originally designed by Walker, again IIRC. And for what its worth I LOVE my sage and swap it out with my G10 delica as my EDC. And where did I see something about a sage with a clear/see through handle to fully exhibit the lock? Sorry to ramble (crazily mayhap) off topic just wanted to share :o

Thanx Mike.

Hi Tony,

We're not giving delivery dates these days until the product makes it through our QC. Too often our "expected dates" are adjusted by vendors or QC glitches.

At least I was just one person. Not seven or eight.

No one made any personal insults and no one was physically thrown up against a locker.
The subject was USA made vs the imports. This is knife discussion. ;)

Let's continue...:thumbup::)
