Sage Knives

BFK, your last paragraph eases my turmoil a tad. But why can't Sal grow operations in the U.S. The good Lord knows he's making money.

Mr. Shark, how do you decide what to carry brother? :)

It wasn't long ago that PM2s were hard to come by. I think they are only recently catching up on the demand for PM2s let alone the other Golden models.

I carry my Sage one from time to time, nice and light and feels sturdy enough in hand. I really like the Sage's leaf shape blade and the handle shape is so usable. Really want a Sage 5, which I think would replace the 1 for me.

Really impressed with all my Taichung Spydercos.

I have a Sage 4, which I just haven't been able to bring myself to carry. It's just too nice! Odd for me as I don't do safe queens or non-users. But when I got the 4 I was just so impressed with every aspect of it I somehow couldn't bear to see it scratched. Maybe I'll get over that one day.

That's a beautiful knife for sure.
I checked out the Dragon and Chap, why didn't you guys sway me towards a Native? Born in the USA?

I don't know. I'd sacrifice anything, including money, to see it, Made In America. I realize Sal is trying to lower costs, but speaking personally, not for the masses, I'd rather see made in the USA.
PS. Can a person take a Dremel and grind off the Taiwan name?

The goal of Taichung production is not to lower costs. It is to offer their customers some of the greatest knives out there, made by incredibly skilled and quality-conscious people. The Taichung production models should be celebrated, not shunned.

Sometimes it seems to me, people forget that Spyderco started its knife line with overseas protection. The 'worker' began its run in Japan. Maybe the Japanese think Sal opened the Golden factory to lower costs. In fact, with the cost of living as it is in Japan compared to Colorado, they probably do.

Bravo Spyderco for seeking out the best knifemakers on the planet, whatever their colour or creed, to bring us these awesome products. It's the way the world is supposed to work.

Kid, you Spyders have opened my eyes to a way of thinking I never would of imagined. I would say this should become a sticky, but something tells me, I'm not the first uninformed to come along. Bravo to you all.

I have just found the perfect mini Sage....I. now own a Chicago. Is it not a mini Sage or what? Liner lock? Check. Leaf shaped blade? Check.

I see what you mean but to me the Chaparral more closely resembles a Sage but in a smaller, thinner package.

Just ordered a sage 2 to go with my sage 1. Got it for $133 with a groupon coupon on the bay. Coupon is PERFECTSTART, only Spyderco dealer it's good for is "united outdoors"

Murphy - you are the King of deals. My wife would love you.

Sharp Guy - While I see your point, I like one handed knives. I know the lock in the Chap is stronger, but I don't need it to be. I want to be able to hold something that needs to be cut in one hand, reach in my pocket with my other and grab my knife...
I think you see where I'm going.

I open and close the Chap one-handed just as easy as the Cat/Chicago. They're all good!

I'm 62 and you must have more manual dexterity than I? I have that ol itis settin in and there ain't no way in Golden I could ever one hand a lock back. I'D have red stuff running down my hand. :)

I need me a Sage 4. Freaking unicorn.
One just sold on the exchange here very recently. It went almost immediately. Seller removed the price, unfortunately. The ones I see are going for so much I can get a custom made with a Ti bolster and wood handles for not a lot more. No doubt a great knife, but for me hard to justify the crazy prices being asked.

Looks like they increase in size as the model number increases
My Sage 1 and Sage 5 are almost identical in size. Sage 5 is just a little wider scale-to-scale, I assume to accommodate the lock. The Sage 3 is larger and carries a little differently.
