Sage or Sage 2?

A birthday has left me a few bucks ahead and I've had my eye on the first and second Sages for a while. I was leaning towards the 2 for looks and its lock.
Anyone have a favorite between the two?

I only have the Sage 1 and it's a great little knife. But if I had to choose I'd probably go for the 2. Titanium is always nice. You wouldn't go wrong if you got the 1 though.

I have a Sage 1, and I agree that it's fantastic. I have a Sage 2 on the way that will hopefully be here soon. I'll let you know what I think between the two once it arrives, but I don't think you'd be disappointed with either.

Standard BF reply: get both!

Then you can put the presentation side CF scale on the sage 2 and have a bad ass CF/Ti frame lock knife (and the vise-versa Ti scale/CR liner lock isn't bad looking either). If I had the funds I would do that (and some day I'll cave and order the S2 anyway)!

Why not combine the two and add bearings, a flipper, and a steel upgrade and get the domino?

I like my Sage 1 alot! However I just ordered a caly 3.5. The handle is only 6 hundredths of an inch longer and the blade is half an inch longer. I really like the thinner profile in the choil area of the caly series. Worth a look.

I've got the itch for a Sage 2, they are so slick in the hand. I don't have a sage 1, but I'm going sage 2 first.

The steel linerlock will probably last longer, if that is a concern.

They are so similar that I think the best way to decide is to go with your gut. Don't overthink it.

If I was paying market prices I might go for the 1. I like them both but I'm happy enough with a linerlock. If one of the other was available used at a good price I would take that one.

They are both great and will do the exact same job. Both locks are great. It is more about looks comparing these two. I wanted Ti and love it, but CF is also nice... maybe one day.

Both are well made knives and, for all intents and purposes, the blades are identical, so you really can't go wrong either way. Personally, if I was right handed, I'd carry the Sage 1 at least occasionally, but I've always found RIL knives unfinished looking (as in - oops! someone forgot the scales!) and the Sage II is no exception.

The Sage 2 seems to generally be thought of as a poor man's Sebenza. I briefly had one that I purchased for my dad and thought it was pretty nice, I'd also consider the Techno, Caly 3.5, and Domino.

I had the Sage 1 I have a Sage 2 ...
The 1 is a very light nimble slicer but doesn't feel very heavy duty despite the fact that it is.
The 2 just has a better feel more expensive for a lack of better description .. It's still lite just not as much so as the carbon Sage ...
Best way I can describe it is the 1 feels like a Swatch and the 2 like a Tag Heuer both tell time and are reliable

I had the Sage 1. I liked it but sold it to fund another purchase. I have the Sage 2 and I won't be selling it. It's one of my favorite Spyderco's.
I did a review on the Sage 2 HERE

I use my sage 1 all the time, many times harder than I should and it is holding up well. Sold my 2 after fondling, I have too many crk folders to really warm up to it. Russ

Sage 1 classy
Sage 2 cool
Sage 3 workhorse
sage 4 beauty
I like the Sage 3 but it just doesn't sit in my hand the way the 4 does. However, the 4 is beautiful but the action is a bit too tight for my liking. I've had the Domino for about a week and was grilled because LE spotted it in my pocket, so now I'm a little wary about carrying it. I've never gotten around to completing the Sage set but so far the 2 is next on my list.
And thanks for the review jasonp!

I would say skip them and get the Domino. If you have to get a Sage, I say go for the 2. I more and more prefer a slightly larger knife than the Sage. It is just a tad too small for my taste, not too small to be effective, it functions very well. The Domino is exactly what I wanted in the Sage's. The 3 is very cool too, a great working man's knife.
