SAK can opener, ever open a can with it?

How well did it work? Was it notched or mauled afterwards? I've used P-38s before, and they work well enough, especially if you're camping, and nobody packed a regular can opener.

Use mine all the time. Takes a few times to get the technique just right, but works great in a pinch:thumbup:

I've used the can opener on my Vic Farmer to open a can, just to see how well it worked. I'll say that it did open the can, but I'll stick to my P-51; I think it works better (faster, leaves a cleaner edge).

To answer your other question, no, it didn't damage the can opener on my SAK.

Only canopener I use in the kitchen , I love them .No marks on any of my openers , that I can discern .

Same here, it's all I have here at school, and as a poor student I eat a lot of stuff from cans. :)

OTOH, I have used my Vic can opener often, sometimes when a dedicated opener is available, because I enjoy using it. Although I have never used a P51, Vic beats the P38 hands down. Also, no damage, and that over 20 years.

I've used it often, especially during camping. It does a good job once you get the motion down.

The edge is not as clean as a can opener, but not bad considering...

It works better than my P38 on my keyring. I use it all the time, simply because I am an electrical engineer who can't get his wife's electric can opener to work and she mocks me mercilessly for it. I've used the Trekker, Spartan, and Farmer over the years in this role. Never used a Wenger Swiss army knife can opener though and they have a different design, so I don't know how well that works.

I used mine relatively often when I had an SAK. And I loved it. Solid. Sharp. Easy to use. Loved the function.

Time went on and I no longer have an SAK...

So.

I recently made the shift to a Leatherman Juice, but I haven't tried this one tool/function yet.

But it happens to be the specific tool I wanted to compare between them both. Should find out how it goes pretty soon. I've already read at least one report that the Leatherman can opener (being blunt) is a bit hard to use, but functional. Still...we'll see.

Okay, as an addendum to my first post, I have to say that the can opener on my Farmer does work somewhat better than a little P-38. A P-51, however, works better than the one on the Farmer. That's to be expected, I suppose, since the P-51 is much larger than the P-38.

Maybe if I practiced with the one on the Farmer, I would like it better. I've been using the P-51 for — what — 30 years? I've had a lot of practice with it.

Maybe over the next few days I'll give the SAK a better workout, and see if I like it any better.

I just used mine tonight to open a can of tuna. Other than my son laughing at me because it was taking so long it worked pretty well!!

I use the can opener on my SAKs a lot, especially during camping, but also in the kitchen at home. It works great.

For most of my adult life, that's what I used to open cans. :)

Same here. We have a few fancy can-openers in our kitchen but, 9 times out of 10, I can take out my SAK and open the can before my wife even finds the "regular" can-opener in the drawer. :D

Just used mine to feed 5 hungary kitties . Talk about tactical ! Only opener for me .

I use my opener on my swisschamp all the time.Works great with no damage.I've also used the opener on my Wenger ranger 61 and it works great too although,I slightly prefer Vic openers

The cut edge of the lid is smooth if you take small enough bites as you go around the lid, but you can leave shards of metal falling off if you try to rush it and take big bites. I think it works as well and fast as old-school can openers with a little practice.

Real men use their teeth to open cans...no, seriously, either Vic or Wenger can openers work ok. The Vic vs. Wenger debate is sort of like the Chevy vs. Ford debate...:)

there are two different can openers on saks:
if you have a layer with one bottle opener and one seperate can opener you go counter clockwise. if you have a combo tool (with a blade in the same layer) you go clockwise.
i dont use mine too often but tried to find out how they work once just to be familiar with it
:-)
