SAK can opener, ever open a can with it?

In the 35 years I've carried a Swiss Champ, I only bought a separate can opener for the kitchen when I lived with my fiancee as I only ever used the one on my knife.

And even then I'd still use my SAK can opener, the kitchen based opener was for her.

I can open anything fast and neatly without spills or snagging. Its a great design!

Family and I were on vacation at Disney this past week and my FIL was looking for a can opener in our condo. While he was searching, I used the can opener on my ?alox pioneer and opened two cans. He commented, "wow, that really does that? I'm impressed." Not that I'm looking to impress him anymore...I already married his daughter!

When I got my first SAK ( at age 11 or 12 ) I went on a can opening binge , Dad caught me , and outdid me by far ! The SAK in question was the 63" equivalent of the Ranger . I use the SAK can opener for "tactical can opening " , I have 5 very hungry kitties , you gottabe fast !

I use the opener on my Vic Farmer just to piss off my wife. It works well enough but is slow compared to her electric high tech can opener.

Is it just me or do you also notice that more and more cans now come with a pull top and don't need a can opener?

Yes, most cans in the supermarkets here have a pull top, but that doesn't stop me from using the can opener on my SAK. :)

Yep! I've used the can opener on Leatherman, Gerber, Vic, and Wenger as well as the P-38 - and they all beat a .357 Mag! in opening cans without the mess!
Peace
Revvie!

My experience seems different. Maybe there are production variances? The can opener on my Vic Cadet is a big pile of suck. The hook portion is polished and rounded so smooth so it won't stay under the rim of the can. A P38 is way faster.

I just tried the multi opener on my just arrived yesterday Vic Compact and it is much better than on my Cadet. It does not slip off, but it isn't better than a P38. Granted I have much more experience using a P38.

I knew that my cats thought I was slow when they bought me an electric can opener!

I think the Vic can oppener works very well and it is all I have ever used.(at least in the last four years.) The wenger seems very crude and has an awkward backwards motion, while the Vic is very smooth and has a foward motion. I prefer the Vic over the P 38 and P 51. It beats the 38 hands down. The 51 is a little faster and makes a bit larger cuts but, my Vic is way more cofortable and is aways in my pocket.
