SAK for edc?

big fan of the wenger SI
which is like a pioneer just with a bail instead of a keyring which is my preference

but yeah saks are great for edc, especially the alox models

I always have a SAK on me (in addition to my keychain rally). I find the tools are just too handy, and too compact not to have on me all the time. I love the Alox models, and have quite a few of them, but I generally carry a Spartan, or more recently, a Tourist everyday. I like the addition of the backside tools, I have needed a corkscrew and not had one enough times to prioritize that tool over the phillips. I also use the eyeglass screw driver all the time to tighten up glasses for friends and myself. And lets not forget about the scale tools as well! I will often carry another traditional on me, but I find that the SAK handles everything I need it to in a day. My first knife was a Tourist that my Grandfather gave me when I was about 8, and I have been a SAK junky ever since. Here is bad picture of what was in my pockets today:

Ever since I've discovered that alox existed, I've had a SAK as my main edc. I've not missed my other knives at all.

Just bought 3 sak's on ebay. First ones i've owned. I've been enjoying carry them.

Been carrying Victorinox knives almost daily since I was a kid. I really like the Tinker for daily carry in the city. My Farmer went bowhunting with me today. The best thing about Victorinox is there is a knife for just about any activity.

I am still tinkering with the idea of a one hand Trekker for hunting, but the little Farmer is just so easy to carry.

I have carried them since my teens. I carried the Tinker (small one) for over 25 years til it became unsafe to use cause of play. I think it had broken springs or something. Still have it around here somewhere. Anyway, for quite awhile I have had one on my keychain currently the Manager and soon to be going back to a Pioneer once it shows up, the black one with red shield which will take the Salt 1 out of my pocket for now. Prior to the Salt 1 I carried an Explorer, which is probably my fav non alox sak! :D

Thanks, Toddwalla. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I have a handful of SAK, but if I had to give 'em all away and keep only one, it'd be my Tourist. My kids call it my "lucky knife" as it rode in my pocket during my wedding, during the births of all three of our aforementioned kids, and during a couple of different (successful) job interviews. Sometimes surfing around on the web, I'll eyeball other Victorinox models, with an eye toward "maximum minimalism" -- something espoused by our pal jackknife -- but each time I come back to the Tourist. Sure, something like the Waiter or Cadet is a wee bit smaller, but I enjoy wine and have used the corkscrew for that purpose; that little screw-into-the-corkscrew screwdriver has been put to use countless times; I like having tweezers and the toothpick handy; I use the pen blade quite a bit -- maybe more than the main blade; and I have used the awl a time or two. If the cellidor handles ever break, I'll just buy some replacements. I consider them "tires" and the knife as "the car." Who gets rid of a car after a flat tire!?

Bottom line: I do carry different knives a lot (including my Case peanut, Opinels, and a GEC 66 slim calf roper). But if I had to only own knives from a single company, I'd choose Victorinox SAK every time, with no hesitation.

For a classic and elegant look, nothing beats a SAK. I work in the oil industry here, engineer on a contractor, and for my daily needs an Alox Pioneer covers everything I need to do.

On weekends usually a Tourist or a Excelsior for more compact company.

In one word: Yes.

Keep safe

SAKV.

A SAK makes a fine edc. If I were not a knife knut, I'd carry one as my sole edc with no hesitation at all. There has been times when a SAK has been my only edc when far from home and the transport has been airlines. Flying to far off places for vacations has meant mailing a SAK to myself numerous times. A recruit, a camper, another recruit.

From the wilds of Key West to the Rogue River in Oregon, to cosmopolitan London, I've never had a SAK let me down. I just prefer the traditional pocket knives of my youth, but since 1969, there's always been a SAK around someplace. The QA of Victorinox is second to noe, and you can pick up a SAK at almost amy big box store anywhere in the country for price cheaper than a lunch at a moderate restaurant. How can you beat that?

I agree with others. It is an excellent EDC. My Alox Cadet is just so darn useful. Not to mention very people friendly too.

I've been carrying one everyday since April. I can't seem to put it down. Never thought I'd take to it so well. I love my Traditionals, but the SAK is always in my pocket these days.

For the average person an SAK is very difficult to beat for a slim pocket tool that can address most of the little tasks we come upon in day to day routine activities.

Quality in the SAK is very high and it's always there when you need it.

Trekker/GAK all the way today! Sweetheart borrowed it for two weeks and I was in withdrawal the whole time.
