I was just thinking about doing something today ... but paused and wondered if it would be a good idea or not ...

So I guess to decide ... I'm just curious as to who or how many like an Alox SAK or if the Cellidor handle material is preferred by most?

According to my collection of SAKs, I prefer Alox 27-0 over Cellidor. The 1 non-alox I own was a Christmas gift from my wife of the White Christmas Evolution, with the white delrin EvoGrip handle.

I prefer it myself ... but I'm wondering if most do or if more still lean towards the Plastic type handles.

Thanks for your reply I'm hoping to get several peoples input to see if an idea I have would be worth while or not.

How about carbon fiber filament? :D My first 3D printed scales, on my Golfer.

All my SAKs are cellidors but am planning on getting a Pioneer X soon as my first alox.

Both are great. I do like the alox handles. Very sturdy. Nice grip but I don't like the feel when the anodized layer wears off. The cellidor handles are also great and they hold a toothpick, tweezer, pin, and pen. You can also easily replace them. Or swap handles between different knives.

No option for both?

...Can there be only one (Wenger) Highlander? ;)

I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help. I have both and carry both (and a Scientist with aftermarket copper scales as well). Each has pros and cons, and what is a pro for me may well be a con for you. I suggest listing the features of each and deciding where you place them, then looking at the list and deciding what is right for you.

I understand many may like both ... and I know some options aren't offered in an Alox model ... like the toothpick and some others.

And I'm sure aftermarket options may be better then both. I'm just trying to get a gauge on whether the people who prefer traditional slip joints like the Alox handles or if they really prefer the Orginal Cellidor handles.

It's more out of my personal curiosity after having an idea run through my thoughts the last few days.

I have both, and while I very much like the heft and grip of Alox, one of my most used tools is the toothpick. So, cellidor it is...

I like ALOX but you can't fit a toothpick, pen, and tweezers in them (yes, I use all of those). Now that I've retired my old Cybertool 29 after a decade or so of faithful use, I should see about custom scales for its replacement, a Cybertool 29.

So it kind of looks like maybe most prefer the Alox handles ... but many prefer the features of the toothpick and tweezers enough that they would prefer that in Cellidor over an Alox without those options ???

That sums it up for me. That's why I picked up a set of copper scales that have the toothpick, tweezer, etc. slots.

With the sole exceptioon of my classic, all SAK's I have left are alox. I've sworn off the cellidor after the handle on my tinker broke from falling out of the pocket in the bathroom from a hight about knee high. The modern hollow cellidor is a joke, and until Victorinox changes to something more durable, I will be boycotting the stuff. Bu them I'm happy with a pioneer, cadet, and old Wenger SI.

In an age of zytel, nylon, and other tougher polymers, using cellidor is a joke.

Ive owned 4 or 5 alox models over the years and have passed them on to other folks. Cellidor is my favorite because i prefer the look and feel and more importantly they offer greater tool selection.
I have been carrying a cellidor sak everyday for longer than i can remember. Ive used them around the house, at work and in the field. I haven't broken one yet and so for me they really are the better choice. My 2 cents.

I won't vote because I like both of them. Cellidor will in time get a nice non reflective worn look on it and alox is of course a lot more durable.

As someone else mentioned already; the cellidor models have the tweezers and toothpick wich is VERY handy.

Alox lines are restricted with fewer layers. But they are more sturdy, with bigger knives and some tools restricted to them, like the inline awl and marine rope tool. Now they offer scissors at least with the Pioneer X.
I would prefer an Alox Swisschamp (XLT) and I would have the scale tools separately, in a Swisscard Nailcare.

I use my toothpicks hard enough that the ones on my SAKs are pretty well chewed and mangled. Now I have a couple of boxes of the plastic French-tickler style ones on hand so I have no need for a toothpick on my knife. For tweezers, I always have a Micra on me, which also has scissors that I prefer to SAK.

So there is no reason not to carry alox. I like the Farmer, but for carry I prefer the Electrician for its sheepsfoot blade.

The cellidor plastic looks and feels cheap to me and it scratches too easily. I don't miss the tweezers on my Alox saks because I carry the much superior Sliver Grippers on my keyring. My Swisschamp is the only cellidor model I frequently use, but I replaced the plastic scales with copper ones. I actually hate cellidor; even the nylon scales are better.

I have this Bushcrafter but I wish it had the traditional red scales.
