SAK - I just don't get the attraction

I've got quite a few knives, but the Victorinox Farmer is the one I carry everyday that can be used as a true survival tool.

I own approx. 25 SAKs from the little Classic up to the Champions and Hunters.Victorinox makes very well finished useful knives at an affordable prices.I have one or more in my pocket always.YMMV.tom.

OK....Now you've all done it...
Yesterday I had to go to Target again, but this time a different one near the house....
They had a double pack...Tinker and Classic Edelweise with a belt sheath for the Tinker.....$29.95

Knowing my wife needed a small knife with scissors and nail file.....I had to buy it....:D

What's a guy gonna do? Now I have 3 SAKs....

BTW....She really liked the little Edelweise.....
I can't recall if I told her about the Tinker...;)

^ You do know the Tinker is the exact model Macgyver used in most of the episodes...Now that's a geeky conversation starter.

I bought the exact same combo yesterday! My daughter got the classic (and my old Tinker that the new one replaced).

So after a few days playing with the Tinker and Electrician Plus, I'm sold on SAK's. You guys were all spot on - very well made and far sturdier than I ever expected.

I have to admit I'm real partial to the Alox finish on my Electrician Plus. While the classic red plastic is nice, the Alox gives it a "polished" or "gentlemen's" appearance, imho.

The SAK is now part of my EDC.

Thanks again for all of the input.

Useful knives to be sure. I primarily use mine to cut things which is why I now carry the Adventurer model. Big enough to use, but have the basic tools on it that the Tinker has. The scissors on many models has never my thing.

DUH.....swiss army knives are the best made highest quality knives for the money, period.what dont you get?????

I think he gets it now :D I'm glad you decided to take the plunge and not hold on to your assumptions, that's very cool +1 for Victorinox and +1 for you!!

+1 for your sarcasm dreamhawk!!!!!!!! there just isn't enough of that around here.

What sarcasm? The orignal poster did come back to tell us about the SAKs he bought and that he is happy with them.

i own several but my fav is the swiss champ, it lives in my tackle box, and i own several model and they are excellent knives, i bought a classic for my son's 1st. knife.

I certainly did, and I still love them. Brought the Tinker with me over the weekend on a quicky road trip and ended up using it on at least three occasions, then I used it today to partially assemble a changing table (too lazy to go get a screwdriver from the workbench).

Well, maybe k2kth has seen the light but I sure as hell haven't. I have the Hunter or Huntsman or whatever it is called. I carried it a day or two but I felt like I was only fooling myself about having a knife with me. And now for the Opinel. I had read a lot about Opinels and still had my doubts about them. Last night on vacation I finally invested (spell that wasted) about $12 on a (( ... )) Opinel. If you have to have a knife and can't afford more than $10 or $12 and can overlook the fact that it is hard as hell to sharpen and won't hold an edge, I guess the Opinel is the one for you.

I guess it boils down to this:If you want a cheap piece of a knife and can afford from $25 to $45 then buy you a SRK. If you can't afford more than $15 but will be satisfied with a very poor knife, then the Opinel is for you.

My 2 cents worth,

Nolan

No sarcasm intended. I'm really happy you like the knives kc2kth. I'm a Victorinox fan boy, I admit it so it's cool as hell to see anyone experience them for the first time.

Nolan, what do you mean by you felt like you were fooling yourself about having a knife with you? What is it that you do day to day that a SAK er SRK can't handle? Just wondering.

SAK's are very nice and convient if your in a situation were it might not be a good idea to pull a one hand open folder out of your pocket. In my case when im not on campus were I have to worry what I carry. I work at a grocey store and know that if I pull out my BM Grip or my Endura costumers would get frightened. Thats why I keep a Classic on my at all times, small but big enough to deal with cardboard and tape.

Interesting...
I don't what type of knife you typically carry, but in actual everyday use, there's really nothing that my Buck 110 or my Chinook II can cut that this Adventurer can't.

Give the Opinel another chance....maybe you just got a lemon.
Or I suppose it could be your sharpening method?
My Opinel, while not the BEST knife in my collection (IMO), is probably the sharpest knife in my collection.
Its cutting performance is simply outstanding.

Cheap piece of knife "SRK" , I hope your not referring to the Cold Steel knife? , I own a Carbon V SRK and that knife is razor sharp and is a great knife for camping & hiking or daily use but that is my opinion,I am very pleased with my SRK.

No, that was supposed to be SAK. What I get for posting when I am tired. I have a SRK that I have had for a long time and I am sort of partial to it also.
