"SAK-Only" Carrying Members

This_is_nascar: I am glad you asked that question, I compared the tinker and the super tinker Swiss Army Knives in great detail and after a lot of reading and research I decided that of those two Swiss Army Knives the Tinker model would be the best option for me.

Glad I was able to help :). I am still not sure how I am going to proceed. I like my current Executive and Cadet combo carry, but I think I am going to get a Recruit next. I like the 84mm platform and the Recruit has the small blade, which I like. Too many choices.

Not quite only a SAK but currently during the week I carry a Cadet, and a PS4. I don't mind having the two sperate tools personally. I find I get a lot of utility between the two, and it's easy enough to keep them in my pocket.

I like to have a AAA light with me as it does come in handy at times. You just never know when a little light on the subject will help. I've settled on the Peak Eiger light. And clipped to the light is my Vic Minichamp. It's just a great combo that doesn't need too much pocket space. Always have them along with me. I prefer the Minichamp as it has two blades but the Rambler is pretty good too and a tad thinner. I really do not notice the extra thickness of the Minichamp however. It's one of Vic's best designs ever, IMHO.

More often than not, in the other pocket is a Vic alox Electrician, or a variant there of. I have been acquiring a few EZ Open models lately, a traditional pattern which I like. But it seems more often than not I grab the Alox. Alox pox is incurable it seems.

:)

There are two versions of the minichamp. The earlier is thin enough, but the later version seems to be just a tad too thick for me. Which do you have?

I will not leave the house without some sort of flashlight on me. All the way from a small AAA light putting out around 25 lumens to my Zebralight throwing 280 lumens from one AA. I can easily say a flashlight gets used more than any tool I carry.

I got my very first knife at the age of eight years... almost 23 years ago  ... from my Dad. It was a Vic Huntsman. I carried it as my only knife in elementary school and a long period of time at high school (at least what we in Germany call high school).

When I earned my first money during free time in summer, I bought several knives - mostly traditional fixed blades but also some modern one handers.

So I was a "SAK-Only" carrying member for a very long time. And believe me, during elementary school I was the King of all the boys, but soon later every other boy had a SAK as well. :D

Spreading the SAK gospel!!!! :D

Although I carry multiple knives now, when I lived overseas for several years in the '80s into the '90s, the only knife I carried was an older Vic Spartan without the tweezers and toothpick. Then I carried it as my only knife for another five years after I came back Stateside. The knife held up well, and except for having to clean out some gunk and being scarred/scratched up from use, it still operates as good as ever. Somehow throughout that time, that SAK served as my only EDC knife.

If I went traveling out of country again, if I took a knife, it would be another SAK...but a small one, kept in my check-in bag.

I totally agree .
I've carried the same light for the last 9 years and it gets used all the time .

Could not agree more!!

Many days, my edc light, the little Fenix E01 that I carry, is used more than any knife I have on me. Last fall we did a coast to coast trip from Maryland to California and back. There was a few days that I didn't need a knife. But every night I used my flashlight at least once. Staying in unfamiliar motel rooms or family members homes, or looking for something dropped under a car seat, or searching for an item in the back shelf of an unfamiliar pantry, the little pocket light was invaluable.

Here's my pocket edc stuff I carry everyday. The Flashlight gets used more than the classic, and the classic gets used a lot!

I've started to only carry a SAK Monday to Friday because I work in an office and people have made comments about my locking folders.

The only SAK I own right now is the climber and to me it's the perfect carry SAK. With the bottle opener, blade, corkscrew etc. it's also the perfect travel knife.

On a separate note, I know a guy who only EDC's a Dual Pro(the one with the Phillips head, not corkscrew) which is a pretty big knife. He was in a car accident a couple of years ago though and couldn't get his young daughter's seatbelt to release. He started to panic but then realized he had the dual pro on him. The serrated blade went through the seatbelt like butter. He never goes anywhere without that knife now.

Two sak compacts, plus a folder. The more SAKs the merrier

Livin the dream with SAK on both pockets.

In my OP carrying 2 SAK's is redundant (even a SAK and a knife). Why possibly double your weight to gain a small number of tools?. That being said, lately I have been pocketing my victorinox cadet and couldn't be happier. It offers so much in such a small/lightweight package. It has become one of my favorite EDC items of all time.

My Cadet and Executive have been the only things I've been carrying recently. I love the Executive for the toothpick, file and dual-blades and the Cadet for the larger blade and additional tools. If I absolutely had to, I could get away with just my Executive.

I carry the Huntsman,along with a Spyderco Mannix,or a Benchmade 300sn.I sometimes carry my ZT 0561 Hinderer.Enjoy them all.

I used to be a SAK only guy, and carried an alox Pioneer or Farmer for more than a decade. Eventually I got frustrated by the lack of edge rentention, which led me to discover the world of Spyderco.

For a while my SAK's were lying unused in the drawer, until I realised the error of my ways...

Now I carry both a Pioneer, and a Spydie. Best of both worlds!

I have to admit, I'm more upset if I forget my Pioneer at home than my Spyderco.

Having my sak on me is paramount, to my other knives. Just wondering, what was your error with the sak?
I know the steel is a bit softer than others, but it also sharpens quicker. I find, if I touch them up ever now and then it's a piece of cake.

What kind of mini-sharpening stone is that? Looks cool and I could definitely integrate that into my gear.

I always have a Victorinox Classic and a Fenix E01 on my keyring and most often carry a SAK in my pocket, sometimes an other knife. This week I carried a Victorinox Recruit.
