SAK or MULTITOOL

I keep a LM Supertool 200 in my bag but it's too heavy for pocket carry.

I keep a Farmer in my pocket because it's handy.

I usually also have a fixed blade in my pocket.

I think that LM's like the Blast and Wave are probably more useful all around but I just got a neat little SAK Champ Plus which is pretty dang cool. This model has scissors instead of pliers. But they also have a pen, pin, chisel, and all sorts of cool little things. It was $28 shipped from Amazon.

I carried SAKs as a kid in Switzerland but now I prefer my LM Wave. More tools and the added weight doesn't bother me.

I carry an SAK and a pair of regular pliers. I find that multi-tool pliers are just plain too flimsy and uncomfortable for what I use them for, and the pliers I have work much better for most any situation. The needle-nose pliers on most multi-tools are nice for fishing and sometimes when doing wiring, but for working on machinery, equipment, and most other things I always go for my pliers. Pair those with an SAK and I like to joke that what I can't fix with that pair isn't fixable.

SAK in the pocket and a multitool in the pack for me as well.
The SAK's vary, but usually I have a Vic OHT in my front right pocket AND a Vic Executive on my paracord bracelet daily.

The SwissTool is my multitool choice and it's in my day bag that goes almost everywhere with me daily including to work.

used to be a SAK when i was a kid, now its LM wave, the only advantage of the SAK was the corkscrew, but now that wine bottles tend to be screw caps the SAk has gone the way of the cork.

I have one of each, but seem to EDC the multi-tool a lot more often because, well, like you said, it does more things.
I find its exactly the opposite. The main reason for carrying a MT is the pliers. If I don't need those (and 20 years of knocking around the back country has shown me I don't) a SAK of the same weight and bulk has more tools and can do more.

Now, if you anticipate needing those pliers, the flimsy ones available on a SAK are no replacement for a MT, but other than that I will go with my Swiss. :D

i edc both a sak super tinker
and a sak spirit

cant go wrong with both on you

Agree that the pliers are less useful when "knocking around the back country," though they're not useless. But let's be honest here: What percentage of your time is spent in the back country. For me, 95% of my time is spent in an urban environment, and therefore, as I said, the LM spends a lot more time on the belt.

I prefer both working together. I use a LM SupertTool and a SAK Tinker. It's a handy combination.

Multitool

I learned the lesson the hard way.

The pliers come mighty handy when another buddy's pedal falls off during mountain biking when you are several miles in the woods.

A lot of my camping is done from the saddle of a motorcycle, so I like the convenience of a multitool (even though there is a dedicated tool kit stashed on the bike). The pliers is also handy in camp for plucking pots from the stove or fire and stuff like that.

One of my favorite edc combos, urban or woods, is my Vic Spirit and Mini Canadian riding tandem in a KSF pocket sheath (although I'd like to replace the Mini C with a pointier small Barkie). I have also been carrying the Spirit paired with a Buck Smidgen around town.

Both. Better stated, if you carry a multi-tool you can't use the pliers and the screw-driver at the same time. I carry a SAK huntsman for my EDC. I just started carrying a pliers in a Nite Ize Pock Its pouch, along with a 4 bit screw driver and a measuring tape. That and my SAK are a formidable combination.

I carry a Huntsman with sharpener in a leather sheath on my belt and I keep a Leatherman Blast in my truck. The reason I carry the SAK instead of the Leatherman is honestly because of weight. The SAK is just lighter for EDC. Im not in the woods all of the time and to me , the Huntsman does all I need. I would rather it had pliers on it though,

SAK for pocket and key ring. Multi-tool for car and go-bag. Victorinox makes the best of both in the world, in my opinion.
