SAKs

I picked up a hiker w/ compass for $18 NIB (enroute to me as we speak), I like that SAK but I like the standard scales red or black, or OD green on a Wenger model I seen....

Hiker is great. I bought two for my cousins and wish they were mine. The Hiker is like a beefed up Farmer!

Sorry no pics of the "lack of" serrations, but it has a single bevel, which I don't really mind at all. Check out sosakonline for all kinds of sak mods.

I use the can openers in my SAK everyday to open vegetable cans for dinner. I use the blade to open all kinds of bags.

I was going to mention that, my sak openers open cans as fast as any mechanical ones I have used. I still remember my dad laughing when I pulled it out to open a big can, then laughing in amazement when I tore through it like paper!:D
Wengers and vics are pretty close, to me, but the wenger opener snags now and then on a sharp angled piece if not careful.

I use the scissors a lot, probably more than the knives--it's also great for trimming my nails. I don't use the saw much, but it's nice to know I have it if I need it.

I don't open many cans, but do use the one on my SAK when I need to. The bottle opener is handy too, but I really don't use the screwdrivers much, i usually have real screwdrivers somewhere close by. They do work though, just usually not perfectly sized.

I use the tweezers & the small blade to get rid of bad splinters. I use the toothpick a lot too.

I use it every day, a lot more than any single blade knife I've ever carried.

I like it. I don't like the package hook or the second small blade. I can see where a small blade would come in handy in the towns when you don't want to draw attention with the larger blade. Is it available in red?

Yes, the red is much more common and a few bucks less. I like the secondary blade-- perfect for appendectomies on the trail or a fireside vasectomy. You can trust me-- I have an Associate of Applied Science in Urology :cool::eek:

I used a Course Diamond EZ-Lap to grind off the serrations on my OHT. Then used a medium, fine and extra fine. Very easy and fast. Then I just stropped it on sandpaper. Looks good but still working on sharpening it. I will post pics tomorrow.

Here is a pic of my Locksmith. I carry this knife on a leather strap on my belt. The knife hangs down into my pocket, so this large folder carries very well.

I'll take some action pics tomorrow.

Okay, I got SAK Madness this afternoon and dug out a couple thrift store Classics with damaged scales and swapped things around to get a good one-- with red and black scales-- a harlequin Classic! Makes a perfect mate to my OH Trekker, adding scissors, a small blade, and file.

Here are a "few" of my saks, I use them for most every thing, In the woods I use the main blade, saw and awl the most, cutting, carving, scraping ferro rods, food prep etc. The screw drivers are used more at work or around the house, but come in handy for working on gear while out and about as well. My favorite woods saks are the hiker, farmer and trekker but I'll take any of em with a saw:D

A few pics of my lockback folders. I took the serrations off of my ONHT today using my belt sander, took about 5 minutes, then touched it up on a butcher's steel.

On the left is my OHT, on the right my Locksmith.

I use my knives for work far more than for camping or hiking. This is one of the more common tasks, cutting open feed bags...

I Love the vic lockbacks.... My current woods user is a vic rucksack paired with soome sort of heavy chopper...handles everything...although if I had to do a night or 2 with just the vic I'm sure I'd do fine.....My edc (I live in the city) is a vic supertinker.

Andy kick arse pictures.
Has anyone found a good use for the corkscrew?

:D New Years eve ,I use mine at that time, every year for the past few...just can't see buying a dedicated corkscrew for 1 a year thing when the one on my SAK don't get used.....:p PS like the non serration, still looking to buy a factory one like that....
