Sal - some smaller Spydercos please..

I think one of the best "small" knives ever made -- by any manufacturer -- was Spyderco's Navigator/Navigator II. A beast of a slicer for a small knife. Awesome construction, great blade steel, etc. My wife, who is notoriously hard on things, has EDC'd one for more than a decade. She got hers as a gift and would never part with it.

More Spydie's like the Navigator would be welcomed by many of us who live in states that mandate shorter blade lengths. I would purchase and carry the Stretch II if not for Michigan's blade laws re: 3" blades or smaller.

At any rate, Sal, you and your folks design and build some of the best knives around. Please keep up the great work!

I'm with this idea. I'd like to see more blades that are 4mm thick. A Chinook with a leaf shape blade, or maybe a Stretch type blade would be awesome.

Or they could bring back the original large manix. That would make me speak in tongues.

Thanx for the kind words AJ.

Those laws seem to be squeezing down on size over the past 40 years, little by little. Since we design and build our knives to be in your pocket and cutting stuff, we have to watch those sizes carefully.

The navigator seems similar to the Meerkat which I love. Although the Meerkat is great in my hand, sometimes it seems thick in my pocket. If Spyderco made a Navigator/Meerkat/Urban like knife in Carbon fiber with a liner lock or slip joint, I'd be all over it. I tried to like the Cat/Chicago but just can't do it.

The profile of the Kopa is just about perfect -- I'd just like one that is lightened/slimmed, in titanium and CF with an elegant low-profile clip. I'd pay $200+ for that, especially with a FFG ZDP blade.

You would but I doubt many others will... Maybe you should be looking at something along the lines of a custom.

Dragonfly, meerkat, navigator, urban, lava, co pilot theres actually quite a few if you look around

Why not? The Kopa went through more than a dozen versions, and sold for around $150. It has many fans (including me), but many people have also commented that it's fairly heavy for its size, and Spyderco has since developed some better clip systems. As much as I like the Kopa, it is for me a winter knife -- it's not as comfortable as I'd like when it's warm and I'm wearing lightweight shorts or slacks.

Spyderco makes wonderful knives, with excellent designs. They're capable of competing with higher end factory-made knives like the Chris Reeves and the basic range from William Henry.

Right now, there's a gap in gents' locking folders between the $100-150 imports like Mcusta (a very decent knife) and the WH and CRK lines that start at $300-350. An updated Kopa could very attractively fill that space for a lot of people.

Thanks for your post Sal, I understand but I hope nevertheless. :D

Hi Arty,

We do have a "hole" in the 2-3/4" size blade. We're working on a couple of Spyderco's and a byrd in that range.

I am looking forward to these.

Cat and Urban are nice, but I would also like to see more in this size that is in-between the Dragonfly and Delica. Hopefully a RIL (sorry, not a fan of the Leafstorm).
