Sal, THANK YOU for the Military !

"If it was me, Ide carry it anyway...

That is in no way, shape or form legal advice!"

You could always say : But officer it's shorter than my Benchmade 710 and I carry that all the time.
:p

I had always been a PM2 fan, but recently the Military has really been on my radar. I just feel it calling my name. I had no idea they were that much more expensive than the PM2, and moreso on the secondary market! Must be something great! I'll have to save my pennies for about a decade and see what all the fuss is about some day :p:D:oops:

I love the Millie, I have several of them and at one time had like 7 I think. I live in Colorado the State in which they are made and I can't carry one legal, concealed in my pocket because of the blade length. I have the orange G10 version in my pocket right now because I am in my house. I would collect all Military models and it would be my EDC in some version if this State allowed a person to carry a 4 inch bladed knife concealed.

Technically the actual edge is not 4 inches. You could probably carry it with out an issue

Few laws that I have reviewed (Federal, State, County, City), for the jurisdictions that I travel, actually state what portion of the "blade" is applicable to "length". Even fewer state that length is relative to only the sharpened portion (opposite of the reference above).

An organization that has been doing significant work related to knife laws AKTI (American Knife & Tool Institute) actually has published documentation & diagrams that appear to reference blade length as from tip to handle. While this document is ambiguous (diagrams & text appear to illustrate an organizations interpretation, but other organizations potentially measure differently - like sharpened portion, etc.). Best to actually review the local laws for specificity.

Here is a link for review: https://www.akti.org/resources/akti-protocol-for-measuring-knife-blade-length/

This consideration comes from someone who lives in a state where laws pertaining to legal carry of knives change significantly during a short drive from one place to another (from one City or County municipality to another).

I figure the law only recognizes 2 parts of a knife when it comes to length, handle and blade. Best figure the blade begins where the handle stops.

and  to the mili, excellent knife.

I always thought the Military was too big but I have slowly gravitated towards larger knives because I am not as prone to lose them. When I saw all the pics of the new Knifeworks exclusive I had to pull the trigger and I can't believe how nice it is. It is definitely NOT too big and I love being wrong when the Military is so right. Definitely bumped to the top of my favorite Spydercos. So I will pile on some more thanks!

One of the best things about the Military is that it is a large knife, but carries smaller than it is. Then there are the super comfortable ergos, numerous sprints in diferent handle materials and steel configs, the size to weight ratio, the option for multiple grip positions, the FFG, the cutting performance, the ease of sharpening, the acute tip, the ease of deployment and stowage, the ability to use the knife un-hindered when wearing gloves, CUTTING PERFORMANCE and just in case its not obvious the cutting performance. One for me (not everyone may agree) is the clip. The position and design of it is perfect and the fact that there arent little screw holes all over the damn knife pleases me. It makes for a clean looking knife. And since we are talking looks... the damn thing looks sexy and fast like an indy car.

I am pretty sure that if Vader couldnt carry a light saber he would carry a Spyderco Military (the blacked out version, of course!)

Agreed 100%. I'm wondering how many wannabees would abandon the Military, the perfect knife, for an abomination the Military 2.

Sal! Please don't sully the majesty of the Militarys perfection of design. Do the right thing and name the Military 2 the Paramilitary XL! ;)

I guess it depends on what they do to the Military to make a Military 2. If it is a lock back I'm out. If it has a compression lock I will consider it but my initial thought is that I would probably avoid it.

I'm just out! The first thing they intend on ruining is the pocket clip. So the majestic scales will have holes all over them!

The horror, the horror...

I agree about the clip. I had some reservations before I bought the Military. All of my smaller blades come with, or have been outfitted with deep carry clips. The military is my dedicated outdoors knife, so I don't care what it looks like in the pocket - carried mostly in rear pocket, unless doing something requiring a more secure front pocket or waist band carry.

The clip position makes it extremely easy to pull out. The supper low profile, mounting point, positioning, and size, make it very comfortable with various grips.

I did buy a deep carry clip for the Military. Used it for a day and changed back to the stock one.

I think the 2 is in the works and the biggest change as pointed out by 5 by 5 is the 4 way clip. I think there was talk of a compression lock too. I have enough Militarys to last my lifetime, but even still I hope they do not discontinue it if the 2 ever drops

Perfectly Said. The military stands to be one, if not the top design of the century!!!!

How about a 5 inch blade and compression lock? The Paramilitary 2XL?

Ok so if they can cram more cutting edge into the same size handle then I may have to take a hard look. Ide prefer more space to get fingertip purchase on the lockbar if they run a compression lock
