Sale Proxy Requests

Not sure who the guardian of the rules is here, but I have the following question:

It looks as if I have a proxy for tomorrow’s sale. The rules for this community are that I am therefore not supposed to also try for myself. Fair enough.
Can I still make an attempt with the understanding that it’s for another member?

I am not the guardian of the rules, but I feel like that should be fine. It doesn't go against the spirit of the proxy system. It is still one person one chance.

I would agree, should be a non issue. To really eliminate the perception of hijinx, just declare who you are going to proxy for before the sale.
 
No arbiter of proxy etiquette here, but I have commented on this is the past. Asking for a proxy then later offering to do so for someone else seems fine enough.

Just know this, there are folks who will get there knickers in a knot over just about anything. I agree with Grenock that you should say so (IF you are going to, but not Who if you don't want to).

To this day I marvel at the sense of fair play around here. Keep it up, boys.
 
So - and btw, I’m asking for a friend (TMQ aka TooManyQuestions, a close relative of ThreadClogger and WhyDo PeopleRollTheirEyesAtMe) - if TMQ wants to give it a try for MJ (MolassesJoe), either to return a favor or out of pity, but doesn’t tell MJ and MJ also makes an attempt, what’s the community’s sentiment about that situation? (This is assuming that everyone is playing fair :) and there aren’t any behind-the-scenes arrangements to ‘skirt the rules’ :thumbsdown::thumbsdown::poop:)
 
We have seen that done before. Probably 50/50 on whether you will get patted on the back for being a good friend or if the torches and pitchforks come out. Kinda like Tony said, regardless of what you do, somebody will get twisted over it. I would say as up front as you can be, avoids the appearance of gaming the system. I would just say, blank has not asked me for a proxy, I don't know if they are going to try on their own, but if I hit, I am giving my spot to blank if they don't. If they hit on their own, I am passing it down since someone is already proxy for me.

Seems like you have put a lot of thought into the optics of this, do I need to start soaking my torch in kerosene or what? o_O;)

Hey guys this is a weird request, Birdhunter1220 Birdhunter1220 reached out asking if I could help him score a UFK2, well I am a OLD customer of Nathan but have zero computer skills and don’t have any real pull on these sales. Any one want to help him out to score one of these, Thanks guys. Best Martin

Personally, I don’t like it. Don’t get me wrong, I like the spirit of it. A friend helping out another. But it looks bad to people who don’t frequent the CPK subforum. Too much of a “club” or “insiders-outsiders” vibe. That being said, there are not hard and fast rules around here, so I don’t know. If it feels sketchy I shy away from it (in my adult life).

Rare are the days where I feel lucky to be tucked away behind a locked door on the 46th floor of a building with tight security and a truly massive sprinkler system...:eek::D

(ETA: No, I am not incarcerated. I am here voluntarily. Sorta. Kind of. At least that’s what I tell myself...)

I was going to try for another member, but feel that polite requests should take priority.
woodysone woodysone - i’ll give it a try and invite anyone else to join me since my success is anything but certain (using phone on less than stellar ‘guest’ network)

I see some post about proxies and not sure I want to use that right now. I am new and do not want to get in the way of someone who has been trying for one of these for a long time. I so appreciate Martin's help but would like to give it a shot on my own to get started.

It seems that we all have a twisted definition of fun, hah.
High blood pressure, rattled nerves, confusion, paranoia, delusion, excitement, crushing blows, medication......

Yep loads of fun. Hah
 
The first time I heard the word proxy was when I met my wife and asked her for a date. She asked me if I had a proxy. Not knowing what she was taking about I said "sure". When I can to pick her up the next Friday night she looked at me and said "you could not find a proxy"? Being as dumb as i was not knowing what she meant I said " not one good enough for you". Took her arm and said "I have a nice resturant for us to go to" any way it work out that was 45 years ago and now I know what proxy means. Wait until I tell her I know what she meant now.
 
Morvlor if you're still willing to offer up a proxy I'm looking for one.

I'm an equipment operator in Hawaii and even getting on a phone at sale times is hard. Thanks for the consideration.

Thought I was going to be able to get in on this friday sale but I'm going to be on the road. Anyone willing to proxy for me?
