Sale Proxy Requests

In honor of the name change of this thread I just picked up some cocaine and hookers. Wait! What?

Just a gentle reminder on proxy etiquette guys.

If you are requesting a proxy, it is because you will not be participating.

1. One person per sale. You, or your one single proxy.
I apologize if i have broken any rule here.
I asked for a proxy help, and i thought no one will proxy for me untill the sale start, hence i participated in the sale myself.
My bad if i broke the rule.
I will follow Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist decision on this.
Whatever nathan's decision is, my gratitude to SwarthyGnome SwarthyGnome for helping me.

Okay, let's talk about this. I stopped proxying for folks because someone asked me to proxy and then posted in the sale themselves. This morning I woke up about :20 before the sale and visited this thread (which I don't usually do). I was feeling warm and fuzzy, saw Sagandavis's post, and PM'd him asking if he still needed a proxy (sorry ipal, I was half asleep and didn't see your post). As I did not have confirmation from him at the time of the sale (which would have required agreement not to post himself), I didn't post in the sale.

I've noticed a few times people have proxied for others who weren't expecting it / didn't have an agreement to do that. This appears to be the case here (so no harm / no foul, ipal). I assume folks are just trying to "be nice" to regular forumites, but it messes with our community flow here.

I do very much appreciate regular forumites taking care of each other. That being said, no offense SwarthyGnome, but I don't think "I think XXX wanted a XXX" should count as a proxy post. A guess at proxying for someone? What kind of precedent do we want to set here?

I'm not attached to the outcome of this ...and... I think we as a community ought to agree that in the event this happens in the future, both entries will be null and void.

I did not define myself in this proxy thread or via PM as being a proxy for Ipal.
I did not because I wasn't sure I would be available with my work schdule to do it, and beingon my phone I generally place poorly.
I placed well, didn't need anything myself, and recalled Ipal wanted a spot, so I posted with his name there in the sales thread. More of a proxy of convenience, perhaps.
Sorry if this caused any issues, as that was not intended. If it would be easier, I can always claim the knife and then do what I please (sell to Ipal on my own).
We can let Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist chime in, and if the proxy for Ipal/ these types of proxies be done away with I will clam the knife myself.
Thank you for bringing this to the forefront, nandok nandok . These types of converations can help bring us together instead of letting issues like this drive us apart here on the forum.

I very much appreciate your transparency and engagement. Feels like this message is kinda personal but imma keep it public for the community discussion aspect of it. So this is kinda addressed to SG and kinda to the community.

In response, I suppose then it would be moot for us to make any rule about it; the point is to, as much as possible, maintain a level playing field for everyone in a sale. I suppose the extra work and cost involved might be enough of a deterrent to keep this from becoming a popular method of stacking the odds (which I get wasn't your intention). And yet it seems to regularly recur accidentally that multiple people post to score for the same person, and that seems like it could be offputting to some prospective CPK customers and community regulars. At what point do we want to address this? At what point does the forum culture shift into something we don't want?

To be clear, I don't want to burdern Nathan with additional requirements on his time and energy, I most assuredly support your right to do as you wish, and I do not want ipal to suffer any undue harm (letdown) over this. It is not my intention to be personally contentious. Thank you for being a solid forum member! FWIW,my vote is let's let this be as it is (SG has proxied for ipal), and think about what we want in the future.

Thanks for bearing with a few more words from me about this.
