Should a sales post be required to have photos just as they are required to have a price?

I voted yes but it doesn't really matter that much to me. I'm not going to beg a seller to show me what they have to offer. If there aren't any pics I just move on under the assumption that the seller isn't really motivated to sell.

I understand that some folks have difficulty posting pictures. I get that but if I had that problem myself I wouldn't put anything up for sale until I got it resolved.

No need for a rule - if there aren't pictures visible, close the ad and move on. Don't ask for pictures. Don't say you're interested. Just pretend it isn't there. It's not as if they don't KNOW that most people aren't going to buy without pictures.
Personally, I'm unlikely to chase links, either. If a seller posts 6-8 different links, I can pretty much guarantee I'm not interested enough to click on them. At the very least, make one image visible in the ad; and put the rest of the images in an album, so potential buyers can access all of them with one click.

I agree with ^^. No photos = no sale. Can't bother to chase after someone if they aren't making any effort to motivate me.

This is exactly right - at the least - "Personally, I'm unlikely to chase links, either. If a seller posts 6-8 different links, I can pretty much guarantee I'm not interested enough to click on them. At the very least, make one image visible in the ad; and put the rest of the images in an album, so potential buyers can access all of them with one click." Thanks hhmoore hhmoore

Pretty much this.

Should they be required, no. Should sellers post them, definitely.

In the end, if sellers don't post pictures and don't want to learn how they'll only hurt their own sales.

I don't think this is something that the forum needs to or should have to babysit adults with formal reprimanding or deleting threads.

If you're truly interested in the item then inquire further.
If not they treat it as a red flag that they're a lazy seller and hit that back button. (Not that that is always the case.)

I voted yes, but only on principal. It's confusing behavior and immediately off-putting. However, I haven't noticed that it negatively affects these people's sales, so it doesn't seem to bother most. A lot of the sale threads I click on lately have no pictures, details, some are missing a price, etc. Weird times.

To me, it's in a similar boat as when people would put NET to me or F&F in their threads. It turned many buyers off yet as odd as it was they still sold. YMMV I suppose.

One limitation on the site now is that photos have to be less than 500KB in size, and the site doesn't offer any utilities to resize for you. Resizing photos isn't hard, but then, lots of people aren't very computer savvy, either.

There was a thread on the technical forum a while back, saying that when Spark moves to the next version of the XenForo software, it'll support automatic resizing as photos are uploaded. Assuming that works as expected, I'd fully support adding a rule that all ads need to have a photo within the ad itself, not just a link to imgur.

All the flippers know how to post pics
It’s the members that really don’t sell much, IMO that have trouble loading pictures. With that, if it’s something I’m interested in, I’ll ask for pics. If it appears that someone is not taking the time to post pics, then I’ll pass.

I think that may already be in place. I have at least been able to upload larger than 500KB pics and mine have been resized.
Check out my posts in that thread.

Perhaps it's just a perk of having a Valyrian Membership. :p

Just tried with two pics, one at 6MB and one at 1MB. The 1MB went through; the 6MB was "too large for the server to process".

I wonder if they just increased the size limit from 500KB to something more reasonable - cloud storage is cheap, after all. Still, they do need a solution for full-sized images. That 6MB file I tried was a JPG straight out of my phone - probably the exact type of file that the non-tech-savvy would try to use.

Pictures I take from my phone can be as large as 2MB, but pictures I download from the internet and upload here have to be 500kb or under.

Its baffling.

I was baffled by how to upload good pics for years here until a member showed me how to do it with post images website from phone (or pc). It's really super simple. Any gold member who is struggling with this feel free to pm me and I'll walk you through it.

I voted no. You don't have to buy it if there are no pictures. I rarely ask for pictures if the seller says pictures on request, and just move on. It would be an extremely rare situation where I would buy a knife without seeing pictures first, but for the right knife maybe....???

Yes to photos required, and Please Please change the sales title to "SOLD" so we can skip over the listing!!

I mean, it's common sense. I hate hearing the "I can't figure out how to upload pictures" excuse. I get it if you're bad with the internet, but why the heck are you on an online forum?

I skip over sales that don't have photos or they are by request.

To me it's a instant red flag that something isn't 100% with the knife. Also, I have trust issues with people that don't know how to operate a camera on their cellphone.

If you can't snap a photo and share it with me how am I supposed to trust you to even tape the box shut when mailing a knife?
