I think people do get a bit prickly when things they really like get criticized...or simply not adulated here. This is a general comment and not aimed at any one comment or commenter here.
Hence, I tend not to comment at all when the maker post things themselves . Most of the time it is not the maker , but their fans that do not like non-positive comments. Things tend not to be constructive after that.
However, when a dealer posts a knife, especially someone as comfortable in his opinions and tastes as Mr Paranee, I may rarely venture forth my own opinion.
There are some trends in recent knife making I do not particularly like. One is the super blocky tactical knives that draw inexplicable high prices and the other is overly complex straight knives. The blade shape of this knife is not my particular taste. I have only one knife in my own collection in a similar style. It is well executed by this maker though and appears to be one of his signature designs. His grinding and finishing skills appear superb. I do not like fullers at all as they serve no useful purpose and they tend to distract from, rather than enhance the underlying design. When you combine a complex damascus pattern, checkering, with the fuller/knife shape combination it comes off too busy to me. Maybe even trendy. The quality of the photos may be playing a role in my visual impression. I like the knife handle shape a lot though.
So my question was and is...will a knife of such a particular style remain in vogue or popular in the future?
I don't think the blocky tactical knife will be. There may be someone here who agrees with that
The best news is we can all have our own opinions and post/buy/sell as we see fit.
