I know people get excited when they order or recieve a new knife. I do too. I know people have questions. I do too. But lately, 90% of the posts have been the same. One after another and page after page. Informative and interesting threads are buried by garbage like: "JUST GOT MY NEW RC (insert number)", "I just got my RAT pack number", or "WHICH RAT SHOULD I GET FOR (insert purpose here)", or other questions that can be answered simply.

Use this custom google search (http://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=011197018607028182644:qfobr3dlcra), just regular google, or scroll back a page or two and look for your topic if you have a question. If you just got a new RAT, post pictures in this thread (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518563). If you're new, LOOK AROUND AND READ THE STICKIES THROUGHLY . Take your time... and don't post garbage just to be part of the RAT pack or you'll be a worthless member and a scourge on this sub-forum.

I see significant potential here amongst a lot of redundancy and self obsessed drivel. Please for the sake of everyone in this community, don't waste our time with the same old crap.

One problem with using a search all the time is that it makes the forum look like it is not getting used.
I have seen a couple good sub forums dropped on other sights because of lack of posting.

this is going to get locked pretty quick. i understand your frustration but that is why there are forums so people can talk about their excitement and ask questions. if not then everyone would just use google. and if your sick of it please dont come on here and make people feel stupid for posting.

I agree. I'm not suggesting that EVERYTHING has been covered, or that people post too much, or that they shouldn't go over some of that which has been covered. I would rather rehash something than bust out a dead thread. However, there IS room for compromise and the status quo is pretty ugly at present.
Live and Let live.

If you're trying to illustrate my point for me, I thank you :D

The way I see it, threads are like boats--the ones that are worth it float to the top and the crap sinks to the bottom. ;)

42, You're a contributer. I respect that. And while the boat theory holds true generally, I think there might be an exception here. I've watched people bury GOOD threads lately and post frenetically for what I can only assume is an attempt to accumulate enough posts to join the illustrious RAT pack and win a knife.

My only desire here is to observe more quality posts rather than quantity. While I think the Izula giveaway is cool, it also has some drawbacks. The short of it: Post 25 times and you might win a knife. See the dilemma? It detracts from the general quality of posts for those that really just want to enter the contest.

I think that the answer to that question is that people like interaction.

There are re-occurring questions, and topics, but that is the nature of the beast.

I admit that there are questions or topics that do get annoying after a while. (For some reason mall ninja questions are high on my list).

Some times I will give a good answer, and some times I just let others.

Any time I make a new sheath, or buy another knife, I will post it somewhere, just because I want the interaction.

Speaking of which, there is a 30 dollar folder I got a while ago that I have not posted.......off to that subforum.

I don't disagree with anything here. My point is that the CLUTTER posting is becoming EXTREME and more disruptive than beneficial here. Especially of late. The Izula giveaway is gaining steam perhaps, or more have heard about it? I can't say, but I have noted that extraneous posting has increased, that is the heart of my post.

I highly recommend becoming a paid member of bladeforums. It costs little more than the price of a fast food value meal to become a basic member(10 bucks) and I have been using the search feature that becomes available to read posts on just about every question I have ever had. There is no end to the information available. Not just RAT's either. Tents, flashlights, packs, serrations and combo edges, sharpening, etc...That and the high resolution photos available make great desktop backgrounds while you anxiously await that new RC-5 olive drab blade with green canvas micarta handle...

I have to agree, there is too many pointless posting going on, however WE ARE ALL GUILTY OF IT. There will never be a perfect system, the only way it will happen is if it is forced by the moderators, but then things might get squashed that people actually want to read. I think there should be like a probationary period, for new members. I see A LOT of people just joined the forum in the last few months and already have RAT pack numbers and start threads. I think we should all take the opportunity to keep our mouths shut more often. Myself included. I find that I learn more if I just open a thread and read it end to end, or do a search for a particular topic. I think it's ridiculous that so many people can't afford 10 dollars for the search function, it goes to keeping this forum going, or just PM someone that has it then they can search it for you and PM you back a link. Just my 2 cents, but like I said it will never be perfect.

EDIT:I think if you are new to RAT forum and you don't have your 25 yet, you should be limited to 5 posts a say until you get your number.

i agree there is clutter. mainly because people are scrambling to get a rat pack number. or they are just spammers.

There will always be threads like "I just got my new RC-X" or "How do you sharpen your knives?" or "What [insert product] do you recommend?" and one of the more popular ones "What's the RAT Pack/How do I get my RP #?"

They can be irritating, they can be extremely annoying especially when all it takes is a little time searching or looking through previous pages in the subforum. But with that said, there will always be questions. Ignore them, or take your own advice and search for the other topics you're interested in.

Maybe it's people looking for a RAT pack number. But maybe, just maybe, it's someone new to RAT and has found what all of us has found out about the RAT forum..... It's a great group of folks that are very knowledgeable so in turn the new folks (who may in the long run breath new life into forgotten topics) are working to interact and learn from the "vets".

Just a thought

^ Absolutely agree there are some who are genuinely here to learn, grow and contribute. But just like anywhere else you are gonna have your 10% that you can't seem to get rid of and are like a disease, unfortunately it has seemed like that 10% is higher lately, and just too many lazy people looking for free stuff or a straight quick answer before doing their own research.

Again, I'm not concerned with these concepts in general. It is the sheer radical volume of these type posts in this sub-forum recently. I'm not pushing against the grain of the general status quo here. I agree that some redundancy is normal and even appreciated (even by me). Every forum is redundant. Period. However, things have become really, really silly around here lately with page after page of "Which should I order". Aren't we better than that? More adult? More competent and capable of some searching and looking? It really is astounding the number of redundant threads if you browse the first three pages.

I don't mind the questions about people looking for knife recommendations, it's that they feel they need their own thread for it. I mean respectable forumites frequent the stickies so why not post it in the anything goes thread so it doesn't bump a better thread and someone will chime in and recommend one to you there without a problem. This forum is always glad to help a newbie to pick out a knife so just throw it into a general thread and it doesn't become a hindrance.

Very good way of looking at it. Some people (like me) are new to the game and will inevitably ask the same questions that have been asked before. We gotta grow up somehow right? That and there is no denying that these knives are infectious and it's hard to contain the excitement from owning a nice piece of gear. I am sure people are dropping post to build their post count but an equal number of folks could just be caught up in the excitement and there is nothing wrong with that. I am a member of plenty of forums that seem stagnate to me because I have been around for a long time but completely fresh and new to the noob, just a matter of prospective.

i already have a izula so i really do not need to win one, but i put my # in anyway.
it was more about getting the rat pack number for me. i was really excited about my
new knives so i wanted to get invloved. i havent started any of the threads, and i
hope i havent pissed anybody off. iam pretty new to this forum thing.
