I belong to several forum sites and this is the only one that you have to pay to search! I think the owner of the Blade Forum site is a knife seller/maker so I've wondered if that has to do with the "pay for the simple options".

No.

Spark owns One Stop Knife Shop www.1sks.com but you will notice that as massive an advertising billboard as Bladeforums could be for him, out of deference to his dealer-advertisers, he doesn't even have a link to his store here.

On the contrary, with all the money memberships bring in, he still pays out of his own pocket to keep the place running.

So why is search restricted? Because we've found that the load on the servers is too great when everyone can search, so he keeps it as a benefit for those who help out with the site, instead of simply using a limited resource.

Nevertheless, you can search Bladeforums. Bookmark this link http://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=011197018607028182644:qfobr3dlcra or go to Google and enter your search terms followed by site:Bladeforums.com

No more excuses. :D

The membership fees here are very much lower than many other sites as well.
Gold for 25.00 a year is a good deal.
I will go Platinum again when my gold runs out.

I have had problems trying to figure out what is on topic & what is not. I have started threads that I thought could be on topic only to have them shut down. Additionally I have seen other threads I consider off topic stay. Really it falls to the mods & the guys running this forum. I love this forum & try to check it daily (if not more). I find it interesting that for a site that wants to stay on topic has an off topic stamp for threads. To be honest it usually easier to point flaws in something that you do not have ownership in. Is this site perfect & going to please everyone? No. Will complete off topic threads & numerous threads of the same basic thing be started? Yes. In the long run I can deal with it so long has this thread continues to crank out mass amounts of quality info & a gathering place for great people.

I believe Jeff stated that anything knife/survival related is fine by him and on-topic. Threads talking about movies or news stories about politics/etc. are off-topic. TBH it's not all that hard to distinguish between the two.

I think there are too many of these kind of threads. Nothing else to do so let's complain about something, or starting calling people ass kissers because they compliment something or try to be kind to others.(not meaning the OP in particular) Use the energy for something useful. Try starting a new and interesting thread. The "I just got a new" threads disappear fairly quickly.

Plus you get more of these threads this time of year when it's harder for some folks to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

While I can understand the reasons behind this thread, and most of the comments added here, to be blunt about it, it REALLY isn't up to any of us to decide what should be here and what shouldn't. That's the job of the Mods, and they do it well.

Here's a suggestion: Worry about what YOU are posting, and where, and when you run into someone adding a thread that has already been adressed, simply point them to where the orginal thread is, and everyone is happy. :)

It should be simple If it has to do with Survival, R.A.T. Knives or various mixtures of these IE How to Sharpen,How to clean micarta etc no matter how many times or how simple it should be to do it. It should be something R.A.T related then it should be a thread on the main page. If it is how do I build a AR-15, Clean a Sig. carry CCW or movie suggestions etc.It should go under the "Any thing goes thread. I'm not a MOD here just My 2 pennies

to help the OP in his 1st post is easy ,a newbie or new to RAT Cutlery blades if they post their excitment or there new blade without content other than look at my new knife, let a few people welcome them and then let the thread sink to the pages below, same with people trying to run up their post count to get that elusive 25 post.... bringing old threads up & posting BS thread hurt us and you have driven useful content to the bottom with BS, 25 post is not hard and posting informative threads are helping the RP community .

to me this thread is a blind tool to drive up post counts ,people will hop on to voice there opinion just to hear them self spew ....
Post useful info and if the thread is cool we will let it stand if it is Jibberish We will close it.... Keep the threads related to survival,RAT knives & the great outdoors.

Alright, I'm bumping this to toss in some support to PayetteRucker because I agree with him. I'm not starting a flame war here Texastonydobbs, but I don't think that my intent was to drive anyones post count up.

I also see the same stuff posted for 10 straight pages. This forum has potential and I would like to see it live up to that potential. That is the essence of my post any my only original intent. I'm not attacking anyone or suggesting anyone isn't intelligent here or even that they don't have the right to express their excitement. However, some more organization or a couple changes could create a forum for more lively and creative discussion with original and amazing posts with some insightful and creative information to share. As it stands, it's the same stuff, every day...

Feel free to shun me, I'll just slip back in to the shadows and silence on this sub-forum :D

As a new member of the Blade Forums I tend to read a lot of the older threads and not start new ones unless I can't find what I am looking for.

However, every forum I visit lately has the same thing happening. Forum etiquette used to be to search, search again and then start a new thread. Those days are long gone it seems. I used to get frustrated and yell at people to use a search function or look around, now I don't bother and just read and post what/where I want to.

I have enough gray hairs :)

Closing this too as not to have the same thing rehash itself.

Thank you for the input, seriously, it is duely noted and will be factored into decisions we make in the future on how we do things.
