Sande5412 filed chargeback 2 weeks after receiving knife

I just came home for lunch, & stumbled upon this thread.

I had a very unusual yet highly entertaining transaction, with Eric (Sande5412). It turned out his temporary fill in mailman (JJose) signed for a knife I mailed in a trade (thank goodness I mailed my end with signature confirmation). I spoke with Eric a least a half a dozen times, along with the person who runs the rather small rural USPO where he lives...it took awhile, but fortunately, they tracked down my package the very next day. The temp worker (JJose), is no longer an employee with the USPS. :o

In getting to know Eric on a more personal level, I was very impressed with the way he stepped in & helped resolve our dilemma from his end. He definitely appears to be a straight shooter, & I personally don't think, that he waited on here for 4 years, to pull some type of small dollar scam.

I also have communicated with hhmoore, on several occasions. He's another honorable member whom I wouldn't hesitate doing business with.

Both of these member's are definitely good to go in my book!!:thumbup: I hope this issue resolves itself amicably for both parties; I have no doubt that it will. :)

Edit: I highly suggest that you give Eric a phone call, hhmoore. It's much better communicating with a person on the phone, rather than BF emails/PM's, or other less personal forms of communication. Just my $.02.

Good luck!

I sent a message to Sande as soon as I saw this via forum email so he could take care of it. That was fast. Good luck sorting it out.

It's funny how the subjects of GB&U threads never seem to have gotten the emails/PMs that were sent to them prior to the post going up.

Oh jeez. The BF email system plain sucks. I've sent so many emails through the forum that never make it and I have had plenty of people tell me they've sent an email to me with it never showing up. I was hoping that the new server change over would help cure this but it appears that it didn't.

^ This x 1000! I deleted my email receiving capability, for this very reason! :thumbdn:

No offense Brancron, but if this were being heard in a court of law, & you were on the side of the prosecution, & this was your position/argument...

the judge would take one look at the evidence (BF's email history), & dismiss the case, as being without merit! :D

I did contact PayPal as well and inform them on what's going on and they gave me the exact information my bank did. I'm praying for the best that they fix it sooner than later

Sande5412. It took PayPal a good two weeks to fix my similar issue and they said it all depends on how quickly the credit card people get it worked out but that it could take up to 30 days. My account was frozen for the amount of the sale till it was resolved. Hope it works out quickly for both parties involved

Some questions for Sande5412:

Was it you that posted the WTB that hhmoore responded to via PM, then subsequently by email?
If so, what was the outcome of the communications?
Was the address that hhmoore shipped to your true address, either residence or shipping?

Any answers to this? Did you post the WTB listing? Identity theft is rampant these days but it seems a little odd that someone would steal your identity and post a WTB listing on BF then use your CC to pay....most of the issues I see are using your CC to buy goods at retail establishments, etc. Not posting a random WTB listing and then "stealing" a knife.

If your identity was really stolen then I wish you the best of luck because that can be a long row to hoe.

He posted the WTB. Card was stolen for something else so tehy froze everything until it was sorted regardless of who initiated the purchase.

See. This is a good Thread. I didn't Expect the Buyer to Chime in, and I REALLY didn't expect the outcome. How cool is that?

An update from my end yall, I've been almost daily bantering with my bank to get updates and all I was told to wait

I don't consider this a good thread - glad you're enjoying it, though.

I don't doubt that Sande5412 has been in contact with his bank, nor do I doubt his previous statements that he'd been in contact with PayPal. That said, when I contacted PayPal regarding his statements, I was told that they had not heard from him. I suspect that the person was referring specifically to the case that was opened due to the chargeback; as there is no documentation of response from him there.
In the meantime, the funds have been pulled from my PayPal account - creating a negative balance...which I have to cover if I want to use it for purchases. (I've tried, and the amount was tacked on to the purchase amount. I didn't want the item that badly, so I didn't complete the transaction)

As of this moment, there is no "outcome" How cool is that?

Sande5412,
As I said to you privately, I've been through this; so I understand what you're dealing with, and am trying to be patient.
I think, at this point, it is best that this thread be locked until there is an outcome to be posted.
Best of luck getting things fixed.

I've reopened this thread; but, unfortunately, the reason is not the one that some of you seem to be expecting.

PayPal replaced my funds this morning, under their Seller Protection, because I provided proof that I completed the transaction according to their policies.
In other words, the chargeback was not reversed. I'm not disputing Sande5412's explanation - it doesn't matter, at this point - but, (IMO) two weeks should have been sufficient time for the bank to have released a transaction that the account holder declared valid.

My similar situation took nearly a month. PayPal stayed in contact with me but would do nothing till the bank finally released the funds. PayPal itself said it could take up to 30 days depending on the bank.

I will cosign on this. I had to submit an actual support ticket to the megalith that is Google to find out why BFC's email system never seemed to make it through yet the same senders could send me mail directly once I passed along my email on their visitor message wall. I did so after something like eight straight "hey I sent you an email" posts or visitor messages the same week I enjoyed a number of pleasant email conversations with other BF members. And I've never bought or sold a single knife here or on any other hobbyist forum, so I have no real skin in this game.

Turns out there's something in the headers of the BFC-tagged messages that Google disagrees with, and they were treating it not as "spam" but "phishing" (even though I look in my Spam folder and there are literally dozens of emails which seem to be phishing attempts -- I've given up expecting consistency from any of these mega-corps). Essentially the emails were perma-deleted once their systems scored the message as a phishing attempt without so much as a placeholder or a "Hey, heads up, we nuked these emails because we think you're too stupid not to recognize phishing for what it is" notice.

Any time I expect an email from a BFC member I simply pass along my address directly now. I'd suggest to the fine folks transacting business on BFC that they exchange emails directly before things get to the point that this one did.

Does this mean your issue has shifted from one with Sande5412 to one with Paypal proper? Mods here have had their say regarding Paypal policy-related complaints already, I believe, so perhaps this isn't the place for that? Or am I missing something here?

I've got to confirm this. We've had enough cases where BFC can't transfer emails securely that I retrieved email addresses for buyer / seller so they could communicate directly.

Spark is working on replacing our archaic and overtaxed vBulletin software. Hopefully, the new system can do email, too! :)

We had been communicating via email. I had deleted them, along with a bunch of others, just before receiving the notice of the chargeback. Not having his email readily accessible, I both PMed him and sent an email through the site.

I think you must be missing something. PayPal replaced my funds under their Seller Protection, as I had shown proof that it was a legitimate transaction and that I had completed my end according to their policies. Not sure where you got the idea that my issue was with them...especially from the post you quoted.
