SANRENMU Folding Knife

I have just ordered the SRM 710 from China, about $12 including shipping.

Without having read this thread when I placed my order, I thought the 710 looked remarkably like the CRK small Sebenza. I have the CRK "Acoustic", which is the pride of my modest collection and which I hate using for "beater" tasks. The Sebbie is far from being a safe queen, but it is a very expensive item, and I prefer not to risk damaging it.

I will be very interested to compare the Sebbie and the 710 side by side, and while it is obvious the quality could never match at $12 against $400, comments here suggest it is far from being a junk knife.

Expecting delivery in a week or so. User report to follow.

Simply clamp a couple of brads in a pair of Vicegrips with the proper separation and you have a tool suitable for adjusting any similar pivot. I had to loosen the EL02 and tighten the SRM 962..

Sorry, not following that: "Brad" -- is that a type of nail?
And you did what to it?

Thanks.

Any very stiff, small and short nail will do. Take a pair of large Vicegrips and two of the nails. Clamp the nails in the Vicegrips separated by the distance between two of the holes in the pivot. Clamp them such that only a very small portion of the pointed ends are protruding making them quite stiff. Just use this as a tool in two of the holes.

was curious if anyone has had any experience with the SRM 910? it looks like a 710 but in the large size comparable to the large sebenza i believe

Don't see that on exduct unfortunatly.
Looks great though (on the SRM website)

I believe there is a Navy which looks similar.

yeah the Navy K507, was just curious since i wanted to try the 710 but dont like how small it is

The Navy K507 is certainly a decent folder for the money and shares similarities with the smaller 710.

But as much as I wanted to like the larger folder, its lock and f&f aren't the same quality as that of the 710.

Of the SRM family of folders I've tried, I rate the 710 at the top. I have a bunch of these, in both silver and black, and they are surprisingly well made and fun to use and play with.

It's followed closely by the smaller SRM 763 and 738 and also the larger Enlan EL-02b. All three are excellent and highly recommended. The Enlan would rate higher but it lacks a tool to adjust the pivot and has some rough spots.

Next comes the Ganzo 704 and the K507.

The Ganzo would rate higher but the "Axis" lock is gritty and the blade came less than sharp.

The K507 comes with a pouch, a nice touch. But it needs a little "kick" to make the lock secure. I have four of these, several with centering issues.

All of these are worth trying. Just remember that there's no warranty and no dealer. What you see is what you get. You might want to order more than one. I've found that two often equals one and one is sometimes zero. I got one batch of an Enlan model with a lock so dangerous I tossed all of them.

well most of the time i buy these as beater knives or something to have fun modding, i do see your reasoning for the multiples but i also like to tinker and fix anything instead of try to get the best of the QC.

since i have mywant list here im just gunna read them out to see what yall think

SRM 910
SRM 710
Navy k507
SRM 718
Navy K602
Navy K502
SRM G701
Enlan ELO2B
SRM BG901
Navy K628

and thats it . . . for now lol

In addition they do make some entry level knives for Spyderco, and likely for other companies as well.
Concerning Spyderco, this would mean that 1 or more knives of the Tenacious family, and/or one ore more Byrd knives are made by SRM. I think that everyone will agree that these are good products for the price.

Sanrenmu also mention Benchmade on their website quote:

"many high-profile folding knives like Spyderxx Byrds, Spyderxx Persistence, SpyderxxTenacious, as well as Benchmaxx Vex, Benchmaxx Pikas are out of the capable hand of Sanrenmu OEM."

http://sanrenmu.com/en/oem/whyoem

They also mention the patent Benchmade axis lock. The implication being they have the rights to use it in China.

I like and only buy cheaper knives, I have a Böker Trance, CRKT Drifter, you get the drift.
I bought two of the Sanremnu which look like a Sebenza.

These knives are just not good enough for me, if I would wear them, I would wear them to use them HARD.
Prying, digging, whatever I want I do with them with not much consideration for the knife.
I see them as throw away knives. And for that purpose they are good. Lock up is good.

But I can't take them serious as knives, my Drifter and Trance or just so much smoother and with better finish.
Deployment is also slow and while they lock up fine, it doesn't lock up with the confident click my other knives have.

actually, the drifter i made by srm I think

Whenever I'm bored at work, I look up "sanrenmu" on this site's search bar, it is always interesting to see the different mixed reactions these knives get. I bought a 710 like 2 years ago when I saw one on ebay and decided that for the price, it looked pretty good. It was an even better surprise when I got it and the overall quality of the knife speaks for itself. Since then, I have added a Navy k-507, Enlan EL02A, SRM 962, SRM 710 (camo pattern), SRM 723 (buck nobleman) and a Ganzo 704. So far, no issues with any of them. No need to adjust pivot on the Enlan or 962, solid centered blades with no play, but if I needed to, I already read here how to. The Enlan's lock was a bit too tough, but again, in here I learned that the portion of the blade that locks the axis is a bit rough, so a bit of sandpaper and 10 minutes left it opening/closing considerably smoother. The Ganzo's axis was a bit stiff too, but some gun oil took care of that and now it's like butter, easiest Axis lock I have - including my BM Mini-Rukus. And maybe Navy's qc has gone up, since I have not needed to "kick" the blade to lock it, just oil the pivot.

Verdict? to me, these are the best bang for the buck folders, regardless of opinions on politics or countries.

i think that was just the 910, but i could be wrong i still cant seem to find the prices on either exduct or the SRM home page

Just got update from the Sanrenmu goes Sandvik thread, it was from one seller. IIRC last time GB910 was sold around 40$ due to rarity.

I'm not going to spend more than 20$ shipped per knife. Got 2 of the superbly build EL02 for about 16$ each, shipped. The blade heat treat of Enlan is a bit better than SRM. I have more SRM than Enlan, but from 2 sample of Enlan compared to 5 SRM, they are bit harder (more difficult to sharpen), which translate to better edge retention.

I have added a Navy k-507... And maybe Navy's qc has gone up....

When I first bought my SRM 710’s, I ordered the Navy K-622 (Al Mar Sere 2000 Homage) with ‘em, and I absolutely HATED the thing. Ended up just throwing it away. :barf: It was an earlier model, with the solid clip, but the fit and finish was among the worst I’ve seen - no, not that bad - not as bad as Emersons, but close.

The liner lock was so stiff, and “sharp” where you put your thumb to disengage it. The G-10 felt official, but the liners and the scales didn’t line up well. The knife was dull out of the box, and just felt “cheap” in hand.

I was impressed with the SanRenMu 710’s though - but recently have had some issues with the action - after two or three years, but not much use.

After exhausting the blade funds on a more expensive and well known American Brand, I still needed to feed that urge, so I splurged on a few more of these offerings from China. I ordered the SRM M4-735 (Hinderer XM-18 Homage), and two Navy K-507’s (Sebenza with one G-10 side Homages), in hopes that I either got a lemon the first time I tried Navy, or their Q.C. has gone up, like you mentioned.

As far as the Chinese offerings go - do we really know who came first? The chicken or the egg? We know SRM does OEM for a handful of established domestic brand names - and we know that having “X” brand stamped on the blade makes the EXACT SAME knife worth four times more than the "REAL THING”.

If the Chinese Spydercos and Benchmades, and CRKT’s are actually re-branded SanRenMu knives, then I’d rather have the “REAL THING” anyway, and save the forty dollars or so that whatever “MIDDLE MAN” company was trying to “earn” from me. It really is like skipping the middle man step, and buying wholesale.

To me, since they’re made in the SanRenMu factory - the Re-Branded versions are the FAKES! Posing as something they’re really not.

I believe the prices we can acquire the SRM knives are very close to the big name companies’ cost, and the prices we pay for that “NAME” are really the three to four hundred percent mark-up - for a “RE-BRANDED” imposter - pretending to be MORE “U.S.A.” than the SRM, while not really.

Just like a Red Bull is three dollars here, and 25¢ there. Just like sneakers that costs hundreds here (manufactured there) cost $30 there. The inflation is HUGE - but when you get it from the source (China), you are not blinded by the “trick” of pretending to be “more” USA than it really is.

Of course, I’m talking about REAL products, not blatant copies, where they actually put the maker’s mark on the tang - that’s a completely different story.

So, if I was EVER going to buy a “Chinese” Byrd, Spyderco, Benchmade, SOG, CRKT, Buck, Kershaw, etc... I would personally prefer to save that 300 - 400 percent inflation, all while getting the REAL THING, straight from the source - NOT re-branded, false pride.

SanRenMu - I bet most people who boycott them, actually have a couple in their collections, that are actually re-branded SRM’s without their consent or knowledge

SanRenMu - Just like GIANT Bicycles (China) makes a billion OEM bikes for tons of other brands - just re-branded.

Sometimes it feels good to save money - while getting the ORIGINAL version, and saving that extra forty bucks, instead of giving it to a company that is buying the SanRenMu knives for you, because you’ve got something against knowing what’s really going on.

well, keep us posted on those navys when u get them.

i havent had any navy knives yet...just the sanrenmu and i have been impressed.

the 707 i got from a usa seller has been pretty decent and i think i am going to look into that navy knife now.

Good knives, I have found most are a little small for my preference, but will probably grab a few more because they are so cheap, and good quality. I did however find a Sanrenmu (Land) Folding Knife on Ebay with some cool machined black and gray scales and tried it, but the quality was terrible. The knife had Land on it and is not a Sanrenmu, so stay away from that.

Is there a Sanrenmu thread for collector of Sanrenmu knives here on Bladeforum!?!
I'm thinking of getting one of these knives for my collection....I can't resist for under $20!
