Hello traditionalists,
as some among you may have noticed, this is my post # 1000..and I've got to give thanks.
I stumbled into BF in a very casual way. I was looking for info on a knife, googled it, and clicked on this link. By that time (it was almost a year ago), I already loved knives and traditionals, I had seen very few American traditionals and I was exploring the "new" (to me) world of modern folders. I read a few threads, then I registered and started browsing BF. In the beginning, I read mainly on the General, Multitool sections and Outdoors sections, but then, one day, I realized I hadn't really explored much of BF, and decided to open every subforum to see what good could be hidden there. I didn't search for long. Cause when I started browsing our beloved Traditional subforum, the rest went far behind. Not that I don't spend any time in other sections (I do), but when I stepped in here, I knew I would stay. From that moment on, I read hundreds of posts and learned thousands of things, I "met" lots of nice people who are incredibly kind and willing to share their knowledge and passion, I stared at tons of beautiful knives and read lots of interesting stories. And, most of all, I felt like I was becoming part of a great community, even though my "knife roots" were very different from the majority of people here. My contribution here has been small but I always felt it was welcome, just like any contribution from any other forumite. So today I'm hitting 1000 posts and I want to thank all the people here on this subforum, starting with the mods (Elliott & Gus before, and now Frank & Gary) and all of you. I've had a great time here so far, and by no means I plan to get away...so you'll have to be patient with me for much more time :D
And...of course...and in line with the traditions of this place...the best way to say "thank you" around here is giving away something. A knife, for example. And that's what I'm doing today. As you might have guessed from the title of this thread, this is a "themed" giveaway. I know most of you might not really be interested in Sardinian knives, but I feel like it's my duty to share with you the knives of my homeland. Hopefully someone will like them. So what I'm giving away is a Sardinian traditional friction folder. I will buy it tomorrow, especially for this occasion, and post pictures and specs of course.
The rules are simple. Post, and enter the giveaway. If, in this year I've been around, there was something about me that you remember in particular (a post, a knife, a thread, anything, in the good and the bad), it would be fun to share it here, if you feel like doing so. I will ship the knife all over the world, of course. Maybe even with some sheep cheese or a sausage or something like that to "test" the knife for its most natural tasks. ;)

Thank you, and good luck!

Congratulations on your posts! Wow. That is a lot. I will follow your example but not there yet.
Lots of great people here.

I've been on here since 06 and only racked up 800 odd posts(some odder than others).
Hail Sardinicus.
i think I might have helped you on way over the GEC cliffs of insanity.
see ya down there!I just got 2 new ones in today.very happy.

Congratulations on 1000 posts. I read almost all of the threads you made, and your name and username is easily recognizable. I remember that one thread you made where you went on a hike, and showed some mountains and that old house in front. Lovely scenery.

Congrats on the 1000 posts Fausto!
I'll give it a shot :D

there are several things I remember, from discussing single blades vs multiple blades
to enjoying the pics of the knives of your homeland/history
to you sending me an opinal which i am in the process of modifying, which is a first for me

its been a good year man

I haven't felt a connection strong enough up to this point to enter any of the give-aways here in the Traditional forum, partly because I haven't been interested in traditionals very long and partly because I wasn't sure I would even want to reciprocate and do my own give away.
I've read a number of your posts Fausto and a number of them helped me learn a few things, but honestly the first thing that came to mind when I saw your screen name was...'hmm, I wonder if this guy drives an Audi Quattro', because I'm also a car nut and I loved the Quattros of the '80's.
I will, in order to help foster Sardinian awareness, if chosen, use the knife in a pass-around with fellow traditionalists before adding it to my family.
Cheers and Ciao!
Russel

Fausto, Thanks for being a participant in the Traditional forum. Your posts are always thoughtful, and you bring all of us a different perspective from a far away place. It's a pleasure having you be part of our virtual community.

I'm going to bow out of consideration for your giveaway. Thank you for your generosity.

Fausto,

This is awesome! A chance to win a hand picked local knife right from your home town?! Doesn't get any better then that. I thought it was cool when you welcomed me to visit when I make it to Italy :)

If I get lucky enough to be chosen let me at least help with shipping costs?

Thanks Fausto, someone is going to end up with a real cool piece with one heck of a story to go a long.

I really enjoy your enthusiasm and contributions. You truly represent "another country heard from," and I appreciate hearing your perspective.

A Sardinian knife from a Sardinian in Sardinia...?

How cool is that?!

Thanks for the chance.

Fausto, you make great posts. You have a remarkable command of the English language and the only way to know that it likely is not your mother tongue is that you live in Italy. I definitely appreciate your European sensitivities which are a little different from those of North America.
I have no idea what a traditional Sardinian knife looks like, so i'm looking forward to the pictures.
May you post another 10,000 times.

Not sure I deserve to enter another giveaway (I just won the 3rd Pay-it-forward giveaway), but thought I'd take the time to thank you for all of the great pictures you continue to post. As someone said earlier, it's great to see another perspective. I find I really like the profile of the knives you post and the stories are great as well. Thanks for the time you take to contribute to this forum.
I especially liked your "Brunch in the woods" post.

Well, yes please! I consider it a honour to own knives from all over the world, that's what makes knife keeping (or collecting) very interesting.
There was a thread some time ago asking how many countries people had knives from. I think I can tally 16, Italy is included but not Sardinia of course:D:thumbup:
Congratulations on your fine contributions.

Regards, Will

Hi Fausto!

Reading your words, I can think the very similar about myself... I don´t already have 1000 posts.

Thank you for posting it! :)

Kind regards
Andi

Fausto,
I don't post a lot and I can't ever imagine reaching 1000 posts! Congratulations! Your threads are always well thought and interesting. I remember watching a cooking show (I think it was Anthony Bourdain) shot in Sardinia. All the men had these beautiful big slipjoints. I thought, does everybody carry these?? They killed a goat and grilled it and it looked pretty darn good!
As you posted once, In your tradition, It's not good to give a knife so will the winner pay a dollar?:p

Gongrats on 1000 posts!
And thanks for a great giveaway, count me in.

I Specifically remember you posting pictures and comments about a local knife show a while back. Good stuff.

Thanks for the chance.
The most memorable moment for me was when you posted aout the huge folder, that was mind boggling.

Thanks for the opportunity! I always enjoy your contributions and perspectives in a forum dominated by USA residents. And, your photos and threads have introduced me to the beautiful bone friction folders and slipjoints of your home country which I otherwise would not have encountered. Bravo!

Fausto -

Congrats on the 1000! Just as you previously had little experience with American traditional designs, I had little knowledge of traditional Sardinian designs until you came along. So we have all learned together. I have especially liked the pictures you have posted of the beautiful horn-handled traditionals.

Thanks for the great giveaway!
