Satisfying Thwack

I don't know, I like the way a lot of my knives sound for different reasons. My Amalgam has a unique sound all its own. My 0456cf also is unique and loud! My Manix 2 also has its own unique sound. But I do have to say my new 801ti has a nice tone, but my 0095bw has a really awesome thwack/clack when opening. So much so that I couldn't quit flipping the stupid thing!

So at the moment probably my 0095.

I think my favorite is probably my 0900. That blade lets off a crack when it’s flipped open. I’ve actually learned to flip it halfway, which is harder than you’d think, in public or I’d get a ton of stares.

I’m somewhat partial to my mini Ritter too. It’s not nearly as loud or intimidating as the 0900, but after flipping it open and close for so long, it’s a sound I’ve come to enjoy.

Favorite Spyderco "whack": Military C.F. M390
Zero Tolerance: ZT 0888
Shirogorov: 111 'Bears' edition
Overall: Colt 1911

Here are an assortment of the loudest knives I own. I often wish all of them were quieter. #1 by a country mile is my beloved special edition Buck Vantage at the bottom (micarta + 20CV). That thing is insanely loud:

Nice assortment.

I love the sound and feel of my Les George ESV and Talos when they open. It sounds solid and precise. Les makes a hell of a knife!

Actually it use dto ve my liong mah warrior 2 v2.... because it was so soft and smooth my new

Here’s my top 3:

1. ZT0801. Heavy blade, free action, solid THWACK.

2. CR Umnumzaan. The muted THUG of the rubberized studs hitting the frame is really, really cool.

3. Spyderco Southard. It doesn’t fire as hard or as loud as my other knives, but there’s something about the flipper tab geometry and the technique needed to fire it optimally that really resonates with me. it’s not a knife known for stellar action, but after 3 years mine is doing great.

Ferrum Forge Archbishop 2.0, big, heavy, solid, Thwack. But not so big that it's bulky. Blade has a nice swing to it, both ways.

Cruz, that one thwacked hard too. Solid.

Love this thread.

I'm gonna have to second the halo v . Sounds like a solid core steel door slammin!
2 is between Al Mar sere 2k and zt 301!!

1 Spyderco Nirvana
2 Spyderco K2
3 Spyderco Autonomy 2 *

Honorable mention
Spyderco Tatanka

* The Autonomy 2 fires impressively hard but the button/liner lock lacks mass needed for a deeply satisfying thwack.

My new Hogue Exploit is really loud.

I remember my Spyderco Slysz Bowie having a distinctive almost hollow "clock" sound when flicked open. I used to have a Spyderco Vallotton Subhilt D/A that was quite impressive when auto-fired.

Something much less discussed is the sound of the closing. My new-to-me custom Cheburkov has a magical sound when the blade glides shut. About the closest I've found to it's closing song is a Grimsmo Norseman.
