siegle chops one more--i want fib took me 1/2 hr. but it would cut notebook paper afterwards.at 71 i know you younguns could do it in 10 minutes.that large tree is called a burl oak--have no idea what it really is except old. the turtle on the log ate a .22 must have been bad for his digestion.

in most of texas winter is mild--notice t-shirt on my companion [12 dec.] this area has tons of beavers , most trappers do'nt have interest in tex. fur since it's inferior to northern climes. trapping is some of the hardest outdoor activity & people needing income would prefer to work at service stations. state trappers seem to be uninteresed in this wildlife area & although some formites may consider myself a tree killing orge---they should see the hundreds of trees destroyed by the beavers.we are all a form of the animal kingdom & i feel no guilt in killing a few trees since my buddy nature took out 10,000 plus trees in the 14 in. sept flood.thanks for the responses.

Dennis, I have a good friend in the MetroPlex area who watches our weather here in Ohio, waits for the snow & temps. to hit zero, then emails me pictures of him out & about either on his Harley or bass boat . . . Sometimes I really wonder why I call him my friend . . . :D:thumbup:

You shot the Turtle? Did you go get him and make some soup, or just wasted a turtle?
I am not sure, but when I lived in TX, chopping down an Oak, was a sin...you need all the shade you can get.:)
 
no oaks were cut down, & of killing i'll only say that you ca'nt justify killing but you do'nt have to justify killing. next week another tree will probably fall & another turtle will go to heaven. opinions are always welcome but i wo'nt justify or explain my activities. the pic is of a buddy ,i'm 71 & cut the tree w/o any help. thanks guys

I respectfully disagree Dennis. I think there is a time where killing is justified.

I also see a difference between a turtle dieing from natural causes, and being shot for no reason. If you ate the turtle cool, if you used the shell for anything, fine. But if you shot it for no reason other than it was probably going to die eventually anyway, thats just kind of strange....

Hey people die every day too, that doesn't mean I am going to randomly shoot one....

Dennis,
the fact that you could cut that tree down with that VERY nice B. Seigle, at the age of 71 is pretty impressive.
Great knife and the pics of TX make me miss home.

As far as shooting the Turtle goes..you can do what you want on your land, IMO..but there are lots of other animals in TX that I would rather pic off...other than turtles. But, I like turtles..always have.
But anyway at 71, your gonna do what ever you want anyway..so no use in preachin to you.
