If you kill something you better damn well eat it. If you cut down a live tree then well that's just about the opposite of what any outdoor enthusiast would want. That's just my opinion of course.

What kind of turtle is that anyway?

Dead turtle.

I'm not so keen on the idea of cutting timber on public land, but that's just me. If everybody did it, public land wouldn't be much worth visiting. On your own land, however, cut away.

That said, I am impressed with Dennis' chopping ability. And his knife. I hope I'm still chopping trees and shooting turtles when I'm 71.

fellows no batons just my arms which are a little sore on monday. jiggy if you kill a fly do you eat him. sounds like you are carrying a heavy load, perhaps you should visit the toliet

I should have stated that if you kill an animal you better eat it. No I do not eat any fly I kill. Why? Because the nutritional value or the amount of "food" in a single fly is next to nothing. Not to mention I don't kill them to eat. However if I do kill a bug of some sort I have a reason. Me not wanting to contract different diseases or sicknesses I believe is a good reason. However I wouldn't kill any creature for no good reason. As I said, that is my opinion.

I hunt dove, and this year I shot 7, and dad shot 3. I cleaned them, put them on ice, brought them home into the fridge. I got so busy that after a week, the meat was no longer good enough to eat. I try to do what is right. I asked Deniis this question about turtle snipin' awhile back, and was at first a bit butt hurt about it. I thought about it, and let it go. If the turtle population becomes too high, it's habitat suffers. I doubt Dennis will be able to kill them all, so oh well.

I would love to go shoot feral cats on the Channel Islands of CA. Animal rights activists protest it while native species get eaten up by transplanted cats. I would not eat the cats neither. I would feel good about exterminating them. Poisoning them would be cruel, and a risk to the buzzard and hawk populations. I shoot pigeons that try to roost under my front door step. I will not eat them flying rats either. If the game fish populations go south due to a high abundance of turtles, then eliminating a few only provides health for the remaining populations.

hey cj i used to fish the channel islands in the 60s . we caught lots of rock cod---snappers, lings, blue bass, white sea bass , cow cod & many others. in the winter we used 4 lbs of lead & went as deep as 250 ft. real workout to pull up 40 or 50 lbs. of fish from that deep. feral cats are always shot if in rural areas since they are very deadly to the quail population. it's not the cats to blame but the heartless owners whom abandon them to the country. ca'nt shoot the errant owners so the cats have to be destroyed to keep any quail around. all wildlife has to be managed. this was finally realized by the elk die-off in the kiabab natural forest in arizona in the late 50s --early 60s. no hunting was allowed & population over exceeded the areas available food source. about 50,000 starved to death in a bad winter.

I once read that pigeons are not native to North America, that they were brought here by Europeans who liked to eat them and they flourished. Funny world.

Starlings aren't native either, and are invasive and destructive. They make good target practice too! I wouldn't want to eat one though :P

O.K. that makes much more sense. The harmless turtle in your picture that eats plants is the same thing as a disease carrying, feral cat that kills quail. Thanks for clearing it up:thumbup:

pde your lack of manners & biology is astounding. carp eat veges & turtles are meat eaters. this really is'nt getting us anywhere positive but i guess the supermod in this section is very tolerant. in the knives area mods would have locked this out since no interesting or informative direction is on going.i believe we might just drop this & direct our attention to positive information. i will probably be in attendence at some more turtle shootings & hopefully chop an even larger tree down very soon.i understand you do'nt care for my cavalier attitude anymore than i care for your juvenile commentary.
however this is the forum & we are free to express any opinions.

Let’s see some data on the over populated turtles in the lakes....

AZ doesn’t have many resources; we're scraping land and building cheap homes down then foreclosing 3 years later.

Wish we had trees to cut down

Well, I took the time to read the entire thread before commenting. So to clarify: I'm not a teenager. I didn't watch any ninja turtles. I support harvesting animals for food, and although I refrain, I support sports hunting as well. And I have plenty respect for my elders. Got it so far?

I think shooting the turtle was despicable. Period. And your lame excuses about the turtle eating your fish and what not are not much better -- unless you dine on two inch fish and a bunch of bugs. This turtle is a part of nature. It provides good balance by praying on the weak and ill, and even by being a meal for some animal we might really like. If you you feel like nature is your private playground to destroy at will, better stay home.

halberdier all you are really saying is your value system is more valid than mine. your intelligence quotient is only matched by your ridiculous belligerence. more turtles will continue a trip to heaven regardless of what you think of me.

I made four points in the second paragraph. You addressed none of them. Not that I care, at all, but it's worth pointing out.

Oh, and guess who else loves to hike the Hill Country.. That's right, the turtle's best friend

Since the thread has become a series of personal attacks, it has lost any other value and may as well be closed.
