Thanks, Blues :)

In anycase, I have been carrying it all week and using it for all my daily chores including food prep. So far it has been a dream to use. It slices through vegetables and fruit very well and is already starting to develop a nice looking patina. The edge has been holding very well as well. As i said in my original post, I am a huge fan of full convex grinds and this knife reflects them nicely. I havent had a chance to do any carving with it yet as I have been stuck in class, but I hope to try it out some this weekend :). Happy sharpening everyone

Hey guys, I did a review of the scagel fruitport about a week ago and thought I would just throw a quick update.

I have been using the fruitport as my main duty knife including kitchen work to just try it in a variety of tasks.

Given a relatively thin and convexed edge, the knife excelled very well in slicing duties for both bread goods as well as fruit and veges. Of course it is no dedicated kitchen knife by any means, but it does well doing camping type chores. I actually used it for a wiener roast for my nephews party and it worked very well.

I also had a chance to do some carving with it. I was carving up a piece of pine for a good half hour. This knife is extremely comfortable in my medium sized hands. After carving there were absolutely no hotspots. It did a nice job carving as well. It bit into the wood nicely and was a dream to use.

Edge retention is very good. I had to quickly throw it to the sandpaper for a quick ding I caused while using the blade. I happened to ding a blade while doing some kitchen work. Nothing major and it was shaving sharp in about 5 minutes of work.

As expected for a newish knife, the walk and talk are both very good and there is no noticeable blade play.
The little pocket slip is still quite stiff, but is starting to feel a little softer. It is holding up well

Here is a couple pics of the developing patina :)

I will probably throw up another review in 6 months so stay tuned ;)

Have a great day,

I find the Scagel Fruitports to be one of the best-finished knives to come down the pike in a long while. The only production knife currently on the market that's better is the Case Tribal Spear. My point being, the Fruitports are really, really nice. A step up from the usual GEC fare (which is nothing to sneeze at). I believe they have stainless liners, which is another point where they differ from the standard #48 GEC.

My Fruitport is one of my very favorite knives. I love it.

Edit: BTW, the slipcase is also quite nice. I don't normally use one of them "girly knife purses", but this one is an extra-nice fit, and I've been using it with this particular knife. As Derrick mentioned above, the Scagel cases are finished both inside and out, which makes a big difference in terms of ease of use.

Just went on a bit of a spree. Ordered a Case Back Pocket in ebony, a Bark River Mini Fox River in Green canvas micarta with red liners, and...

A Scagel Fruitport Wharncliffe in Sambar Stag, #4.

I'm most excited for the Scagel, as I've never had a traditional folder before and it's such a cool mix of oldschool looks with a very modern looking wharnie blade. Glad you guys love yours, as I'm going to carry mine and use the crap out of it!

Awesome, I look forward to seeing some pictures of your new blade:)

That's a very nice knife you've got there Mark. Glad you're enjoying it!!

I got it and it's amazing!!! The stag is a joy to look at. The mix of traditional natural handle material and a rather futuristic looking blade makes for one unique knife.

The thing I love most is the pass through nail nick makes opening a breeze, and the wharncliffe blade has a scalpel like point. While the stag is significantly wider at the butt of the knife than the smooth bone, it does offer some more handle cross section to grip during use.

The fit and finish is superb, as is the action and centering. No blade play. My particular stag has a deep groove running past the arrowhead crest. It creates an amazing visual journey for my eye as I view the handle, traveling up towards the bolster and blade. I could not see this feature in the photo on KSF, and while it took me off guard when i opened the knife, it's beautiful and unique.

I do wish the handle was not so wide at the butt, but it does add to the unique aspect of the folder, especially that no two are alike. It carries very well in the amazing little leather sheath. The sheath is smooth as butter inside, keeping the knife safe, and while tight at first, it will break in to fit my knife perfectly. I can carry front pocket with ease, and back pocket too. The leather makes sure my knife stays gripped in my pants and doesn't come out when sitting down/ standing up.

I highly suggest this knife because although a traditional pattern, it will go neck and neck when it comes to cutting against any modern looking slippie.

Awesome knife.

Loved the picture of the Warny Fruitport! I ordered one last week and am now eagerly awaiting it's arrival:D. Steven

Recieved my Stag Warny version last night and what can I say I love it! It will be getting a LOT of pocket time. Size is just a hair long for the rules around here (3" limit) but no one is going to question it (same issue with my Kerry Hampton Back Pocket and it gets carried a lot!). Not sure about the pocket purse, will have to see, right now it is at home with another knife it trying to get it loosened up. Steven

Wow. What a beautiful picture!
The lighting is fantastic.

Thanks for another great one Derrick. And the pocket sheath works great. Took a few days to break in, but now it releases the knife with a gutsy squeeze, just like it should.

PS. Returned the Mini Fox River. Good OAL length, but the slabs were too thick for me to carry front pocket. Look for it on Thursday or so. Will be ordering up a Blackjack necker when the credit rolls through.
