Scagel Fruitport Initial Impressions and Review

Thanks for the review. I bought the clip ivory last summer and the beauty of the knife is unmatched by anything else I have in my collection. Mine is still scary sharp with light use during the past few months. The convex grind is exactly what you would expect from Bark River. It is very solid feeling in the open position, although I obviously don't use it for heavy tasks since it is non-locking. I am not old enough to appreciate the original Scagel design, but I would have to think that GEC/Bar River/KnivesShipFree are doing their best to keep the Scagel spirit in tact with these knives. I really enjoy having the knife in my collection and have gotten many compliments on it.

I just received my bone clip blade Fruitport today in the mail and here are a few initial impressions (pictures to follow later). First off the size is just perfect for every day carry. F&F is nearly perfect. Blade is centered and the scales fit very well. There is just a very slight amount of underblading but very close to flush. Pull on the blade is about a 6.5 but is VERY easy to pinch open due to the cut-out. This is one of the reasons I was interested in the knife to begin with is ease of opening. Very smooth (walk) and nice snap (talk). No blade play whatsoever or gaps in the back spring.

On to how does it feel and cut. First of all it is smaller than I expected for some reason but it fits in the hand and pocket very well. The slip case that it comes with is interesting in that it allows it to stay upright in my front pocket. I'll probably not use it much though since it is one more step in getting the knife out and ready to use. The convex grind came pretty sharp out of the box. Would scrape hair off my arm but not to the standards that I have my other knives.

I'll report back after I put it to use over the weekend and take pictures but so far so good!!

Been using this knife all afternoon just looking for things to cut. Broke down two wine boxes and cut up some limes and so far it feels and cuts great!

Very cool, look forward to seeing your pics. I have had mine in my pocket since I got it. I actually have grown accustom to using the leather pouch. I thought id dislike it, but I dont use my slip for fast applications anyways so It doesnt bother me. Mine is gaining quite a bit of character and has been serving me very well :)

Mine came in a small white cardboard box with the Scagel logo on the end. Inside was both the knife and the slip pouch in plastic.

I've been enjoying, and using, my clip blade Fruitport over the last month. I've recently been on a Wharncliffe blade kick so I think that I need to order a Wharnie version too. I love the look of the stag but not too excited about how wide typical stag scales are. One question I do have is how easy is the Wharncliffe version to pinch open? One of the great features of my clip blade is that even though it has a solid pull it is super easy to pinch open due to the Scagel hole in the blade.

Mine is super easy. I have the stay and love it, but understand that each has different likes. Mine is developing a really nice patina, it is one of my three favorites. Steven
